He was born on August 21, 1956 to Madeleine Frederic Futrelle and the late George L. Futrelle in Goldsboro, NC and relocated with his family to Hickory when he was a baby.
Rick was a retired, self-employed plumber, a former volunteer fireman with Fairbrook Fire Department, a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Newton and a former Administrator for the Riverside Moose Lodge.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother George Linwood Futrelle Jr.
He is survived by his wife Elisabeth (Betsy Sain) Futrelle of the home; his mother, Madeleine Futrelle of Hickory; sister, Marilyn Futrelle of Conover; stepson, Christopher Westbrook; grandchildren, Devin and Kyra Westbrook of Conover; sister-in-law, Diane Futrelle of Florida; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Due to the current pandemic, a private family gathering will be held in the Hickory Funeral Home Chapel at a later date.
