HICKORY – Fred F. Hefner Sr. 92 of Hickory went “Home” to be with his Lord and beloved wife on January 16, 2018.
Born on April 19, 1925 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Herbert L. and Gertie Little Hefner. Fred loved going to the mountains with his wife, Maxine, enjoyed raising rabbits and watching Alabama football “ROLL TIDE”. He retired from Whiting Hosiery where he worked as a fixer. Fred was a WWII veteran and served in the Fifth Army where he received two Purple Hearts and many other accommodations.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty one years, Maxine Hefner, brother Roy Hefner, and sister Della Stinson.
Left to cherish his memory are sisters Essie Weaver and Allie Huffman and brother Wade Hefner; daughter Linda (Forrest) Lovelace, son Fred Hefner Jr., grandsons Dwayne (Cheyanne) Lovelace, Donnie (Tammy) Hefner, and Darren (Tasha) Hefner, great-grandchildren Allen and Helen Lovelace, Trevor and Corbin Hefner, Makayla and Nicholas Herman and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 19th at 2:00 pm at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Ernie Richards officiating. He will be laid to rest at Catawba Memorial Park in the mausoleum.
Family will receive friends prior to service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm in the chapel at Catawba Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka KS 66675-8517.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Hefner, Darren Hefner, Dwayne Lovelace, Trevor Hefner, Corbin Hefner, and Ronald Herman.
