CONOVER - On Wednesday morning at Frye Hospital Fred “Pat” Campbell, Jr., of Conover peaceful went to hold Jesus hand and to be with the love of his life, Evelyn. He was surrounded by family and friends, he was 90 years 5 month. He and Evelyn had been together for 72 years, after her passing his heart was broken and he wanted to be with her and their Jesus.
He was born on November 28, 1922 to Fred Paul Campbell and Edna Hefner Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Loyd, Glenn and Jack.
He is survived by daughter, Martha Campbell Propst and husband, David, of Conover; grandson, Paul Edwin Propst and wife, Dawn, of Lenoir; granddaughters, Lynne Propst Carpenter and husband, Kevin, of Conover, Trina Propst Sampson and husband, Daniel, of Colfax; great granddaughter, Chelsie Simone Propst of Madison, Wisc; great grandsons, Justin and Dylan Sampson of Colfax and Dalton and David Carpenter of Conover; sisters, Nita Weaver, Betty Sherrill and husband, Paul, Georgie Helms and husband, Bob, of Coroner. He is also survived by special extended family, Thelma Wolf, Cindy and Roddy Anderson, Jan Plots of Winston, Debbie Wolf of Newton, Kim and Leonard Houston of Lake Wylie, SC, David and Sheila Wolf of Raleigh, Becky Kirby of Atlanta. A number of nieces, nephews and cousins in the area.
Special neighbors that were a true blessing of friendship, Frances Reese, Redford and Jean Spencer of Coroner. We thank you for your friendship and kindness to Fred and Evelyn.
He was an active member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod, Hickory since age 18. He held many offices and was on many boards during the years. He was Sunday School Superintendent for many years, cemetery committee and elder and just some of what he served on. He was a sales rep for several foam companies for many of his working years. He started working with his dad as a young man as a carpenter and contractor and did this until the death of his father.
His family was very loved by him and all are very special, we will miss him greatly, but he left us with hope, faith in Jesus and lots of love for each other. His love and devotion to wife, Evelyn, during the years is a great example and model of what love and marriage are meant to be. Thank you dad and big paw.
Services will be on April 14 at 3:00 P. M. at his church, St. Stephens Lutheran Church, Mo Synod. Family will receive family and friends from 1:30 – 2:45 P. M. at the church before the service. Pastor David Guelzow and Pastor David Zither will conduct the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family wants to thank the nursing staff and Dr. Weisgerber on 3rd floor at Frye for the wonderful care, love and devotion given to our loved one during his long stay at Frye, you were angels for us.
