Elmer Young

Elmer Edward Young, 79 of Newton died Saturday, December 20, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Elmer was born in Beckley, West Virginia on September 3, 1935 to the late Merlie and Phoebe Young of LaFollette, Tennessee. Mr. Young retired after 31 years with the State of North Carolina as a Social Worker for the Blind. He was known for being a successful financial investor. He graduated from the Tennessee School for the Blind as Valedictorian and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. He was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church in Newton, Newton Lions Club and The Catawba County Association of the Blind. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Sara Webb Young; sons, Michael Edward Young and wife Susan of Conover, David Ray Young and wife Tina of Newton, and Timothy Lee Young and wife Stephanie of Hickory; sisters, Louise Lawson of LaFollette Tennessee, Betty Brewer of Speedwell, Tennessee and Barbara Lunsford of Newton; grandchildren, Mike, Tyler, Ross, Vanessa, Breanna, Dylan, Luke, Peyton, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Tuesday, December 23 at Catawba Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations in Hickory with Pastor Fred Thompson officiating. The family will receive visitors 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
