Ellen Elizabeth Swindell

HICKORY— Ellen Bass Swindell, 82, of Hickory went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 13, 2017 at Catawba Regional Hospice. Born Ellen Elizabeth Bass in Florence, SC on September 7, 1934, she was the daughter of the late George Washington Bass, Sr. and Mamie Young Bass. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Homer Theodore “Ted” Swindell; her daughter Karen Elmore and her brother George Washington Bass, Jr. Known as ‘MawMaw” to her family, she is survived by her daughters Sheree Knighton and husband Rick of Newton, Melanie Conway and husband Ron of Hickory and Elizabeth “Libby” Usry of Florence, SC ; her sons Jeff Swindell and wife Donna of Hickory and Tony Swindell of Concord; 5 granddaughters and 6 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 17, 2017 from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at Grace Church. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:30 pm with Pastor Mark Dolphens officiating. Her greatest desire was to do the Lord’s will and show the love of Christ to others.
