Edward Darrell Warren, Sr.

Darrell was born in Catawba County, January 15, 1929. He was the third child of the late Edwin Yates Warren and Dorothy Melton Warren. He was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Eugene Warren, a sister, Audrey Warren Moose, and a great granddaughter Vada Renee Warren, all of Hickory, NC.

Darrell grew up in the Brookford community. In 1946 he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1949. On May 13th, 1950, he married Kletus Mae Frye Warren. They were married 65 wonderful years, until her death in 2016. Darrell spent his life working in the furniture industry until his retirement in 1994.

He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and quick wit. He loved fishing and being outdoors. He enjoyed being in his “building”, where he could build, put together, or repair most anything. However, he cherished being “Dad” and “Papaw” the most.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, daughter, Sherry Warren Huffman, and her husband David. Edward “Eddie” Darrell Warren Jr, and his wife Vanessa, and daughter Tina Warren Pierce, and her husband Michael, all of Hickory.

Grandchildren, David Huffman Jr., and wife Shannon of Gibsonville, NC; Andy Huffman, and wife Nancy of Hickory, NC; Jennifer Brown and husband Jason of Taylorsville, NC; Edward “Trey” Darrell Warren III, and wife Sydney of Hickory, NC; Andrew Tyler Warren, of Charlotte, NC; Joshua Pierce and wife Samantha of Hickory, NC and Sarah Pierce of Hickory, NC.

Great grandchildren, Meghan Huffman of Nashville, TN; Adam Huffman of Gibsonville, NC; Anna Huffman of Chapel Hill, NC; Jeremy Huffman of Hickory, NC; Ethan Huffman of Hickory, NC; Emma Brown of Taylorsville, NC; Levi Brown of Taylorsville, NC; Elsy Warren of Hickory, NC; and Calvin Pierce of Hickory, NC; sister in-law, Doris Laws of Hickory, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Honorary Pall Bearers will be his grandsons and great grandsons.

The family will be served by Drum Funeral Home, 940 29th Avenue, Hickory, NC 28601. The family respectfully asks that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Trinity Village, 1265 21st St. NE, Hickory, NC 28601.

The family will receive at 11:30am until 12:45pm. The celebration of life service will begin at 1:00pm in the Chapel on site.
