Dorothy Pearl Ward

Dorothy Pearl Massagee Ward, 96 of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 25th, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born on May 30th, 1927 in Lincoln County, NC she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Lela Austin Massagee. Dot retired from Hickory Springs Foam Plant. She was also a volunteer at Frye Regional Medical Center for more than 20 years, as well as working with the ladies of the church making quilts for donations, served as a greeter on Sunday mornings and was on the funeral committee for supplying meals to the families. She was loved by her family and will be dearly missed.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by, her husband of 60 years, Sterling David Ward, Sr.; a brother, Ervin Massagee and 4 sisters, Edith Watson, Luvern Scronce, Irene Massagee and Rosa Brewer.

Those left to cherish her memory include, a daughter, Ann Ward and a son, David Ward and wife, Diane; three grandchildren, Shawn, Jennifer and Christi and one great grandson, Bradley.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Miller’s Lutheran Church at 2280 12th Ave NE, Hickory, NC 28601on Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Vicar Rebecca Foster officiating. Dot will be laid to rest at Miller’s Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carolina Caring of Newton and Miller’s Lutheran Church of Hickory in Dorothy’s name.
