Born in Catawba County, on January 5, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Beckley and Virginia Dare Spencer Sigmon.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter Tameletah Starnes Baxley; sisters Janice Bolick and Anna Rudisill and brothers David and Dwayne Sigmon.
Doretta retired after decades of dedication and service to the Catawba County School System. Over the years, she owned and worked at many daycare centers, because the kids kept her young. Before working for the school system she was a travel and ticket agent in the airline service industry. She lived in Alaska, Hampstead, NC and always came back home to Catawba County.
She is survived by her son Dennis Starnes Jr. and wife Deborah; daughter Pamala Starnes; grandchildren Christina Asbury and husband Ashley, Sydney Dockery and husband Cody, Logan Starnes, Corbin Starnes, Abigail Icard; great grandson Lincoln Asbury; sisters Lydia Mathis and Karen Shade; brother Allen Sigmon; and longtime companion Ron Reidel.
Services will be planned for a later date.
