DEBRA JEAN SIMMONS NEWTON – Debra “Debbie” Simmons, 64, of Newton went home to be with her Lord on August 29, 2015. She was born on December 18, 1950 in Catawba County. She was the daughter of the late Hal J. and Norma Simmons. Debbie was a beloved member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and worked as the executive assistant to Dr. Ed Yount, Senior Pastor. She felt it was her calling to put the needs of the church and the needs of her Pastor before her own. Survivors include her brother, Don Berry and wife Janice of Conover; nephews, Kyle Berry and wife Bonnie of Hickory, Kevin Berry and wife Carrie of Conover, and Jason Berry and wife Nicole of Hickory. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 4, 2015 at 2 PM at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Yount officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12-2 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 440 7th St. Pl SW, Conover, NC 28613.
