Daisy Edwards Cooper Peterson, age 85 of Newton, went Home to be with the Lord on September 21, 2023. She was born on March 5, 1938, to the late Moses Edwards and Geniva Lee Peterson. From newborn, in addition to her birth parents, were dad and mom Samuel Jefferson “Jeff” Cooper and Daisy Edwards Cooper. In addition to her four parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers: RC Edwards, Glenn Cooper, Calvin Cooper, and half-brother JD Edwards.
Daisy was a devoted Christian. She loved her church and church family, Mountain View Baptist. At the later part of her life, she loved and fellowshipped with Abernethy’s Spiritual Life. Her faith, family and friends were her everything here on earth. She loved people and they felt that, loving her back.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Sheila Peterson of Claremont NC; son, Roger Peterson (Tatyana) of Conover NC; son, Richie Peterson (Pamela) of Hickory NC; grandchildren, Brandon Lee Earls of Claremont, Derrick Graham Earls of Hickory, and Kourtney Blair Peterson of Asheville; brother, Walter Cooper (Peggie) of Cherryville NC; five sisters, Rettie Edwards Thompson, Flora Cooper Briggs, Mary Edwards Edwards, Volena Cooper Brittain, Linda Cooper Brown (Mickey); five half-brothers, Sherrill Edwards, Donnie Edwards, Elvis Edwards, Danny Edwards, Randy Edwards; three half-sisters, Carolyn E. Edwards, Paulette Edwards Barnett, Treva Edwards Peterson.
In 2013 Daisy made Abernethy Laurels her new home. She loved all her new friends, and they loved her. The family would like to thank all the Abernethy staff that touched Mother’s life, but especially her loving nurse over the past year, Katie Rabon.
All services will be held at Catawba Memorial Park, Hickory NC, Monday, September 25th. There will be a private gathering for family at 5:30 p.m.; family will receive friends 6 to 7 p.m.; funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Susan Roddey officiating. Graveside service will be Tuesday, September 26th, 10 a.m., at Catawba Memorial Park, Pastor John Compton, Mountain View Baptist Church.
