Hickory- Clara Etta Thompson (lovingly known as Nanny or Nana), 81 of Hickory went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 30. 2022 at Trinity Ridge Long term Care.
Born on August 30, 1941 in Caldwell County, NC she was the daughter of the late Ernest Eugene and Pearl Townsend Ford.
Clara owned and ran a daycare in her home for over 30 years and was a homemaker. She was a member of True Vine Church of God where over the years she served as Sunday School Secretary, Sunday School Teacher for the primary class and sang with her family.
In addition to her parents, Clara is preceded in death by Samuel (Hank) Thompson, her loving husband of 54 years; a son, Bradley Thompson; twin great-grandbabies, Hardin & Marin Steelmon; a sister Myrtle Craig and 2 brothers, Albert & Ruel Heavener.
Those left to cherish her memory include, her daughter Cheryl Stiles & husband Wayne; a daughter-in-law, Reva Thompson; 3 granddaughters: Renee Stiles, Melissa Steelmon & husband Josh, Debra Hasselwander & husband Robert; 2 grandsons: David Stiles & wife Heather, Jason Stiles; 6 great-grandchildren: Maverick Steelmon, Jacob Hasselwander, Blake Stiles, Troy Stiles, Cora McClure & Hannah Hasselwander; and 1 great-grandpuppy, Chachi.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Trinity Ridge for their excellent and loving care, and to a special nurse Debbie Rhodes.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on November 3, 2022 at 6:00 pm, with Pastor Andy Nicholson officiating.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00 pm.
A Graveside Service will be held at True Vine Church of God Cemetery on Friday, November 4, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Andy Nicholson officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Ridge Nursing Facility in Clara’s name.
