Hickory- Reverend Charlie Jonas Keener, 87, went to be with the Lord, Monday, June 26, 2017. He was born on January 7, 1930 in Catawba County to the late Robert E. Keener and Velma Cline Keener. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Lorene Griffey, Mildred Workman and Mary Campbell and a brother Howard Keener. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict; Charlie was supervisor of the finishing room at Joan Fabric for over 30 years; he pastored for 4 years at Hillside Baptist in Brookford, 10 years at Poovey Chapel in Hudson and 30 years for New Hope Baptist Church on Prison Camp Road in Newton. He is survived by his wife Mary Wilson Keener of the home; a daughter Vickey Davis and husband Ralph of Hickory; a son David Keener of Hickory; a grandson Randal Whisenant and friend Carrie Dyson of Claremont; step-granddaughter Teresa Sigmon and husband Brian of Bethlehem; a brother Bob Keener of Hickory and a special niece Judy Setzer and husband Jerry of Lugoff, SC. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 28, 2017 from 1:30 pm to 2:45 pm at Hickory Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 3:00pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Dale Faulkenbury and Mike Sigmon. Burial will be private Thursday at Catawba Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, 1577 Prison Camp Road, Newton, NC 28658.
