HICKORY— Carl “Graden” Fox, 93, of Hickory passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday, September 24, 2017. Born in Alexander County on November 8, 1923 he was the son of the late George Roscoe and Dessie Ola Little Fox. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lena Mae Shook Fox; brothers and sisters, Grafton, Ruby, Bonnie, Paul, Betty Jean and Glenn. Known as Wolf to his friends and family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He joined the Navy December 21, 1941 and was honorably discharged December 24, 1945. He worked as an aviation machinist’s Mate 1 c. He sailed aboard the Enterprise, USS Hornet and San Jacinto. After the Navy he went to Appalachian University and Graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College to begin his teaching career with the Hickory City School system for 31 ½ years until retirement. Also an active member of the National Exchange Club for over 40 years in Hickory, NC during which time he served as club president twice. He will be deeply missed by his family friends. He is survived by his daughter Cynthia Fox of Hickory; his son Michael David Fox and wife Lou of Hickory; grandchildren Matthew Fox, Jeffery Fox and wife Amanda; great grandchildren Adalynn Fox, and Justin Fox.; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Hickory Funeral Home. The funeral will be Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Hickory Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend William Sturm officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with military rites will be performed by American Legion Post 48.
