Betty M Turnbull

Betty M. Turnbull passed peacefully into the Lord’s presence on January 30, 2020, at Carolina Caring, surrounded by her family. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 4, 1932, the only child of John and Katie Montgomery. She grew up hearing the gospel at the Pawtucket Gospel Hall. On April 30, 1944, at eleven years of age, while listening to a radio preacher speak about Isaiah 53:5, Betty understood that the Lord Jesus took the punishment for her sins and trusted Him as her Savior. She later taught Sunday School in Pawtucket. Betty married Robert Turnbull on April 30, 1960 – choosing that date in honor of the day she trusted Christ. She moved to Michigan where three children were born to them: Tom, David, and Jean. She was active in the Stark Road Gospel Hall throughout her time in Michigan. In 1981 they moved to Statesville, North Carolina for employment where they were active in the Hickory Gospel Hall. In 1990 another employment change took them to Mansfield, Ohio where they enjoyed fellowship with the believers at the Mansfield Gospel Hall. The Lord brought the family back together in North Carolina in 1994. In 1996, her husband Robert went home to heaven. Betty remained in North Carolina and spent many happy years in fellowship with the believers in Hickory. Betty loved entertaining in the home and was given to hospitality. She shared her love of reading with her nine grandchildren and enjoyed playing games and spending time with them. Wherever she lived, she was always quick to adopt new friends and make them part of her family circle. Her words of encouragement and wisdom and her prayers for everyone will be greatly missed. Left to mourn her passing are her three children, Tom (Debbie) of Canton, MI, David (Ginny) of Claremont, NC, and Jean (Ed) Martin of Jackson, MI, her nine grandchildren, and many others who loved her.
