Betty Green Skerjanec

Betty was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hickory North Carolina, but more importantly she trusted Christ as her Savior on October 17, 1958. Her goal in life was to see her husband, children and grandchildren come to know Christ, as Savior, also. Her purpose in life was to glorify God. This goal and purpose was written down and given to her daughter to be shared on this day. No doubt, everyone who knew her was touched by her love and generosity, at some point. She was a “giver.“ She gave, because it naturally poured out from her, because as she often said, “We have a big God!” Now she knows in full….how big He really is.

Betty was a graduate of Haines High School in Winston-Salem, NC. She was a BellSouth operator in Winston-Salem for several years, and was once part owner of Green’s Market in Hickory, NC.

Surviving Betty are her husband of 22 years, Joseph Henry Skerjanec, Jr.; her three children, Daniel R. Green, Jr. of Hickory, NC, Robert Dale Green (Ann) of Taylorsville, NC and Susan Jean Basinger (Marty) of Taylors, SC; her five grandchildren, Michael Chase Basinger (Mary), James David Basinger (Amy), Christopher Daniel Basinger (Nicole), Heather Nicole Smithey (Cory), and Miles Dale Green; and her eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two stepchildren, Angela Jo Chapman (Jon) of Hickory, NC and David Scott Skerjanec (Haley) of Valdese, NC.; and by four step grandchildren; Jonathan Wilkinson, Kathryn Wilkinson, Kobus Wilkinson and Ezekiel Skerjanec; and by one step great-grandchild.

Betty was preceded in death by her first husband, Daniel R. Green, Sr.; and by her parents, Miles and Fannie Sprinkle; and by all her six brothers and sisters.

Betty’s family will be receiving family and friends at Drum Funeral Home, 29th Av. NE, Hickory, NC at 1pm on Saturday, October 14, 2023, and her funeral will follow at the same location at 2pm the same day. Officiating will be Pastor Eddie Sapoch of Faith Baptist Church.

Memorials to Betty’s life may be made to Faith Baptist Church on Sandy Ridge Road in Hickory, NC.
