Betty Jo Townsend Hodges, 87 of Hildebran went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 23rd, 2023 at The Berkeley of Morganton surrounded by her family.
Betty, whose favorite name was Nana, was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Her passion was nurturing and caring for others, especially children. She loved sewing, gardening, shopping, and cooking. Above all else, Betty was a life-long follower of Christ Jesus, faithful church and choir member, as well as a loving example to all.
Born on September 21st, 1936 in Avery County, NC, Betty was the daughter of the late Lewis Solomon and Lorena Odom Townsend. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Jack Ray Hodges, Sr.
Those left to cherish her memory include children: Jack Ray Hodges, Jr. (Shawn), Kimberly Hodges Oliver (Andy), Andy Joel Hodges (Kristy), Ann Hodges Smith, and Jeremy Lewis Hodges (Angie); sister, Carolyn Finley and brother, Floyd Townsend (Patsy); sixteen grandchildren and twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Catawba Funeral Home on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Jack Ray Hodges, Jr. officiating. Betty will be laid to rest next to her husband following the service at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends in the visitation room prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Berkeley or Medi Home Hospice in Betty’s name.
