Born on March 19,1922 in Yancey County, Lena was the daughter of the late Thomas H. and Rosie Whetstine Grindstaff. She loved to work in her garden, quilt, cook and most of all she loved to read her bible.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Craig Phillips of over 50 years and numerous other family members.
Survivors include, 3 daughters, Geraldine Buchanan, Juanita Walker and Kathi Frye; 4 sons, Tommy Phillips, Billy Phillips, Bobby Phillips and David Phillips; and a multitude of other family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on January 8, 2020 at Catawba Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Pastor Brian Correll officiating. Burial will follow at Catawba Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00pm at Catawba Funeral Home.
