Jorge N Vivo

Jorge Nicolás Vivó, 93, went to be with the Lord on September 16th, 2022. He passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his family. “Jorgito”, as he was lovingly called by those close to him, was born in Lawton, Habana, Cuba on September 10th, 1929 to parents Jorge and Delfina (Ruiz) Vivó. Things were tough in Cuba and Jorgito, the oldest of seven, started working at the age of ten to help support his family; his strong work ethic enabled him to succeed in becoming self-employed by age 25. Jorge met his beautiful bride, Josefina Céspedes during a fateful day at the scenic Varadero beach, and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1954 and were blessed with two daughters: Adriana and Raquel.

As many other Cubans before him, in 1962, Jorge and Josefina decided to leave their much-loved country behind so that their children could grow up in freedom. After many struggles, much sacrifice and hard work, Jorgito and Josefina became owners of Joyeria Alpes in Hialeah, Florida. Jorge was known by many residents of Hialeah, not only as a local jewelry merchant but because of his dedication to God as a member of Santa Cecilia Church in Hialeah, Florida.

Santa Cecilia Parish was a new parish and Jorge became one of its founding parishioners. He joined the Caballeros Católicos and through his work enriched the lives of many. He was always first to raise his hand and help with fundraising, volunteering at the church carnivals, organizing social events for the parishioners and handling the collections for Sunday masses. Jorge was instrumental in helping to establish a yearly program to give food bags to the elderly and less fortunate, whether they belonged to the parish or not, so that they could enjoy a meal during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Jorge was dedicated to the Lord and to his family, those were his two loves.

Jorgito was a pillar of the Hialeah community. He leaves behind, his dear wife of 68 years, Josefina “Gordy” as he called her; daughters Adriana Vivó and Raquel (Vivó) Ramos, son-in-law Jose Ramos, and three grandchildren, Andrew Kennedy, Anissa Ramos (Leonard) and Alexa Ramos who lovingly called him “Papay”.

No viewing is scheduled. A mass will be held at Santa Cecilia Church, at 10:30 AM, 1040 West 29th Street, Hialeah, Florida on Thursday, September 22nd, 2022. Internment at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery 11411 NW 25th Street, Doral, Miami, Florida, following the mass.

Falleció en paz, en su casa, rodeado de su familia. “Jorgito”, como cariñosamente lo llamaban sus allegados, nació en Lawton, Habana, Cuba el 10 de septiembre de 1929 de padres Jorge y Delfina (Ruiz) Vivó. Las cosas eran difíciles en Cuba y Jorgito, el mayor de siete, comenzó a trabajar a la edad de diez años para ayudar a mantener a su familia; su fuerte ética de trabajo le permitió tener éxito y convertirse en trabajador por cuenta propia a los 25 años. Jorge conoció a su bella novia, Josefina Céspedes durante un inolvidable día en la pintoresca playa de Varadero, y fue amor a primera vista. Se casaron en 1954 y fueron bendecidos con dos hijas: Adriana y Raquel. Como muchos otros cubanos antes que él, en 1962, Jorge y Josefina decidieron dejar atrás su amado país para que sus hijos crecieran en libertad. Después de muchas luchas, mucho sacrificio y mucho trabajo, Jorgito y Josefina se convirtieron en dueños de Joyeria Alpes en Hialeah, Florida. Jorge era conocido por muchos residentes de Hialeah, no solo como comerciante local de joyas, sino también por su dedicación a Dios como miembro de la Iglesia Santa Cecilia en Hialeah, Florida. La Parroquia Santa Cecilia era una parroquia nueva y Jorge se convirtió en uno de sus feligreses fundadores. Se unió a los Caballeros Católicos y a través de su trabajo enriqueció la vida de muchos. Siempre fue el primero en levantar la mano y ayudar con la recaudación de fondos, ser voluntario en los carnavales de la iglesia, organizar eventos sociales para los feligreses y manejar las colectas para las misas dominicales. Jorge fue fundamental para ayudar a establecer un programa anual para dar bolsas de alimentos a los ancianos y menos afortunados, ya sea que pertenecieran a la parroquia o no, para que pudieran disfrutar de una comida durante el Día de Acción de Gracias y Navidad. Jorge estaba dedicado al Señor y a su familia, esos eran sus dos amores. Jorgito fue un pilar de la comunidad de Hialeah. Deja atrás a su querida esposa por 68 años, Josefina “Gordy” como él la llamaba; sus hijas Adriana Vivó y Raquel (Vivó) Ramos, su yerno José Ramos y sus tres nietos, Andrew Kennedy, Anissa Ramos (Leonard) y Alexa Ramos, quienes cariñosamente lo llamaban “Papay”. No hay velorio programado. Se llevará a cabo una misa en la Iglesia de Santa Cecilia, a las 10:30 AM, 1040 West 29th Street, Hialeah, Florida el jueves 22 de septiembre de 2022. Será sepultado en Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Cemetery 11411 NW 25th Street, Doral, Miami, Florida, siguiendo la misa.
