I met this old lady a few years ago. There was so much positive energy and vitality in her. I remember the old lady she couldn’t and did not even want to sit in one place.
It was hard not to 💗love this lady.

Hay momentos como estos en nuestras vidas, cuando todo en lo que hemos contado es estremecido y virado al revés. Nuestros corazones son atormentados con un dolor que no se puede calmar, y nuestras mentes no pueden razonar una solución. Tratamos de muchas maneras y con muchas cosas lograrlo, hasta el punto que se puede apagar todo nuestro mecanismo natural para procesar nuestras emociones y pensamientos. Esto lo hace el cuerpo tambien, cuando sufre un trauma físico. Puede ser inconscientemente, o por una decisión de la voluntad. En este estado podemos vivir toda una vida con cosas no resueltas que no dejan de demandar resolución. La verdad es que ese es el secreto personal de toda la humanidad. Y cuando vemos nuestra tragedia humana compartida en otro tan cercano que no la podemos ignorar, a quien podemos ir para resolver lo que nunca hemos tenido el poder para hacer con nosotros mismos? Uno a buscado la manera de sobrellevar las cosas de uno, pero es mucho más difícil aceptar ver sufrir a los que queremos más que a nosotros mismos. Es en ese momento en el cual regresamos a ese trauma personal y compartido de nuestro ser interior y de nuestra existencia. Alli necesitamos de quién honestamente descubra su alma sin verguenza para compartirla con la nuestra, determinados a estar con nosotros en la misma impotencia -pase lo que pase. Cuando llegamos allí, aún falta lo más importante. Somos como un ciego ayudando a otro ciego a cruzar una avenida. Aunque nos hace falta, y es de gran valor el amor incondicional de un semejante, todos necesitamos a un Dios todopoderoso; quien quiera y puede hacer lo mismo, mas, quiera y pueda hacerlo todo.

First of all condolences to Elida's family members: I am writing in this space because my beloved late mother, Gloria Corbo Yanez, loved and respected Elida. They were friends the special way women are friends. The two entered each other’s lives when my youngest brother and Elida’s beloved oldest grandchild, Theresa, met and fell in love and eventually had Christian and Ariel.  That union and the shared grandchildren turned Elida and my mother into life long friends. My mother was amazed by Elida’s spirit, her independence, her work ethic and her leadership within her huge family. Everyone seemed to depend on Elida and she never let anyone down. “Elida is the strongest woman I know,” my mother would say often during her life, with true admiration.
After all the children and grandchildren were grown, my mother would ask me to take her to visit Elida and Ada, who my mother loved as a little girl because of their shared love of purses and beautiful shoes.
Back then I would drop my mother off in Miami Springs and  she and Elida would spend hours sitting a a couch talking. Elida would always make my mother feel better.
Another side of Elida is that she was also very Cuban, like both my parents. 
I once interviewed Elida for a story about her early days in exile. Some might not know that she came here during Camarioca, a small boat lift that occurred in 1965. Only about 3,000 Cubans made it out. Elida, her husband, Pablo, and daughter Noema were among them. When more Cubans came and were being processed at the Freedom Tower in downtown Miami, Elida was on the front lines working at what was probably one of the first walk-up Cuban cafeterias inside the tower. 
“A mi me encanto ese trabajo,” Elida me dijo. “Los cubanos éramos tan unidos en esos tiempos.“ 
I hope by now Elida and my mom have found each other in heaven and are sitting down for a chat.

Mi querida hermana Elida, siempre te recordaré, nunca te olvidare, recordando nuestra niñez tan feliz, que la pasábamos jugando a las casita haciendo comiditas, jugando con las muñecas, recordando que tú hicisteis de segunda mamá, que nos cuidasteis mucho, tu cariño hacia todos tu hermanos,  y la unión que tú tenías con todos nosotros. Te quiero mucho. 

Pablo, Antonia, Elida, Franco, Nuema y Eduardito. 

Elida was the sweetest and spiciest personality you could ever know. She never hesitated in her kindness and made you feel at home whenever she was around. We will miss you and remember always.

Élida, Adita, Virtudes, Jonathan y esposa.

I will always be indebted to her, as she was responsible for saving my life by arranging to have me come to the US via Spain through the Waiver Visa program (Peter Pan) when I was 14 years old. She through her hard work gathered the money for all the expenses for the trips from Havana to Stockholm and Madrid to New York.  She received me at her house in Miami and took care of me till my parents arrived from Cuba, providing me with medical care and education.  She was my comfort, spiritual guidance, confidant. Always there to listen and give advice.  She was my second mother. I will always have fond memories (like I would spend my school vacations at her home in Camagüey, Cuba) of her. Never had a complaint about her, or any bad memories or arguments.

Adita y su abuelita querida… te amare siempre… 

Even though I am very far away and the last  time I saw her was many years ago.I always remember Tia Tita like I used to call her with lots of love and appreciation. She looked after me and my sister many many times at her house while my mom took care of my dad. I always remember her making me my favorite Cuban dishes for lunch or dinner when I used to stay over  , those memories I keep close to my heart ❤️. Rest in peace Tia  , love you . 

So sad to hear of Grandma's passing... she was always kind to me and I will remember her fondly always.  Sending love and prayers to the family.
