Audrey Joan Di Piazza, or as everyone called her “Cookie”, entered her eternal rest in the evening of August 9th, 2020 at age 69. Although she fought so bravely, she was called to God’s side too soon, and will be with his angels forever.
Audrey was born May 28th, 1951 in Brooklyn, NY to Gene and Joan Smith. She was one of five children. Her siblings, Eugene, Margaret, Gail and Steven and their parents all lived together in Brooklyn. Along with many cousins, aunts and uncles they were always a happy family.
In 1964, she met her husband to be Salvatore Di Piazza, and the two were married on August 8th, 1970. They decided to move to Miami in 1972 and made it their home. Lovingly, they were married for 50 years, and 1 day.
Cookie is survived by her husband Sal, her two loving sons Frank and Gino, her daughter in-law Jackie, and the light of her life, her two grandchildren Dominic and Anthony. Along with her Brothers and Sisters, she was an amazing Aunt to so many nieces and nephews as well as a Great Aunt to many as well.
Along with other family members, they opened Di Piazza Italian Restaurant in 1975, and Villa Italia in 1983. Both were favorites of the Hialeah community, and Cookie was a vital part of both successful businesses and was adored by employees, local representatives and the thousands of customers, many who became more than friends but extended family. She worked almost everyday, and Di Piazza Italian Restaurant is still family owned and operated for over 45 years thanks in part to her.
She had many hobbies. She loved to shop, cook and play card games. She was a staple in many Bowling leagues where she developed many life long friendships. Some had passed over the years, but many of them always would make it a point to visit the restaurant just to say hi and have dinner. Her favorite was hosting Christmas Eve. She invited everyone and all. She made sure there was a gift for everyone, even children who weren’t expected to attend, and they always found a gift from Santa under the tree.
Cookie will always be remembered as a loving Wife, an Amazing Mother and a spectacular Grandma. She will be thought of by her family and friends as one of the most loving and generous persons. She helped anyone she could and never expected anything in return. She always kept a positive outlook on life. Even in her last years as her health was always an issue, nothing could stop her from doing what she wanted to do.
Now that she has passed on, she will feel no more pain. No longer will she suffer and she can rest easy and watch over all of us until it is our turn to see her again. She will be missed by all.
