July 29, 1937 – February 1, 2023
Alberto Hernandez, 85, of Miami, Florida passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. Alberto was born in La Ceiba, Honduras on July 29, 1937 to Justo Hernandez and Ramona Calderon de Hernandez. He was the youngest of ten children.
As a young man, he joined the Honduran army to begin his military career. Afterward, Alberto started a family in La Ceiba with his sweetheart and had four children. His passion for cars started when he began working in a local mechanic shop in Honduras. Since then, he has dedicated his entire life to serving others through this occupation. He worked for many mechanic companies, specifically Goodyear, Firestone, and in last years with Interstate Tires.
When he was 33 years old, he moved to the United States to provide a better life for his family. Alberto lived between Florida, Maryland and Washington DC and settled back in Florida in the 1980s. He got his certification for Mechanic Diesel in 1992. He brought his four children, son-in-law and two grandchildren from Honduras in the early 90s to move to the United States with him.He has called Florida his home for many years and resided in Miami where he retired as a mechanic. He loved working with his hands and fixing anything he saw that needed to be fixed. He was the most resourceful person you could meet and would rather repair something than replace it.
He shared his love of cars with his children and grandchildren and was a helping hand to anyone that needed help. Even at this age, you would see him fixing cars and supporting his family and friends in any way they needed help. He loved watching soccer games and enjoyed watching the recent 2022 World Cup games and talking about the highlights with family and friends. His love of animals, specifically man’s best friend, was infectious and was passed on to his entire family. He loved every type of animal and would often feed the ducks and iguanas in the lake behind his condo. Whenever he saw a hurt animal, you could count on him to rescue them and bring them back to health.
He loved music and particularly singing and playing his guitar. You would always hear him whistle to any song or beat you heard on the radio, especially while we worked. Since getting a cellphone, you can always catch him watching his YouTube videos and looking up his lottery numbers.
Alberto is survived by his sweetheart Orfilia Puerto. Four children, Silvia Hernandez, Jorge Hernandez, Sonia Hernandez, Reynaldo Hernandez. Eight grandchildren, Cesia Midence, Carlos Midence, Karla Hernandez, Sara Midence, Roslyn Hernandez, Rachel Hernandez, Gabrielle Midence, Roy Hernandez and his brother, Armando Hernandez.
