Missing Tobias’ sage advice in times like these. Can’t believe it’s been a year. Time seems to be moving so fast. My continued condolences to his loved ones. The investment world lost a legend. In retrospect,  we were absolutely in “Euphoria” territory when it happened. RIP

Tobias was my competitor during the 1990s and I came to know him as good and decent person with great integrity.  I stayed in touch and followed his work over the years as a strategist because I had tremendous respect for his intellect.  I'm very saddened to learn of his passing at such a young age.  Goodbye my friend.

Its taken a while for me to process the accident that took my good friend's life.  I spoke with Tobias on a regular basis, 1x or 2x a week for the past 5 years.  I enjoyed our discussions of philosophy, family, religion and asset classes.  He was always generous with his time and quick wit.  Oddly enough we actually discussed his burial plot in Jerusalem and how proud he was to have the foresight to acquire that asset.   Tobias was one of the first on Wall Street to visit my new office in Stamford and we followed that up with our tradition, a kosher meal where he introduced me to Montreal smoked meat.  He was so proud of his family, and so happy that the pool was finished so that he could host the grandkids at the house. 

May Tobias memory be a blessing.  I'm grateful for the time I spent with him.  I want to thank his family for allowing Tobias to share his time with the rest of us over his many years on wall street.  He was a true mensch.      

I worked with Tobias for years at Citigroup.  He was always so pleasant, and his humor brightened my days.   He treated me with respect. I was heart broken to hear of this tragedy.  Sending love to his family, it was an honor to know Tobias.  I am eternally grateful to have had the opportunity.

I am sorry it has taken me so long to send my condolences.  There aren’t many strategists in this world, and I’ve had the opportunity to get to know the best of them around the world over the past few decades.  While I had long followed Tobias’ work, I only really had the privilege of getting to know him personally over the past few years through roundtable dinners, conferences, and more recently 1 on 1 (socially distanced) dinners, when he could make his way up to Connecticut.  It is in this most recent setting that I came to know him as a friend.  In a time with so little in the way of human interaction, Tobias was a frequent oasis of rationality, intellect, humanity, warmth, and humor.

He would always bring his 6-inch packets of charts, but we rarely leafed through more than a handful before we would get sidetracked into talking about more important things like family, philosophy, religion, and everything that made me come to respect him as a deeply thoughtful and wonderful man.  I sat down with him for our last meal at the end of July.  We discussed the challenges of raising children, and he provided insightful and sound advice, as always, and I left inspired to be just a little more like him.

I will miss Tobias deeply – as a respected colleague, and as a friend, as a family man, and as someone who can truly be considered a philosopher – as a beacon of honesty, integrity, and humanity in this often-cynical time.  May we all pick up a piece of the bright torch that he carried in this world, so it does not darken in his absence.

Even after becoming a major Wall St strategist, he would return my calls when he really didn't need to. In an industry full of people with outsized egos, Tobias always made me feel important.  A special man who will be missed by many.

Tobias was a true gentleman -In every sense of the word.   I always enjoyed our meetings and discussions about markets -he was a original and creative thinker.

Like many, I was fortunate enough to get to know Tobias over the years while he was at Citi and I with BlackRock. Tobias Levkovich was a friend of mine, and a great professional.  We were among the same cohort at Citigroup, although he went much further.  While we seldom agreed on investment strategy, he (correctly) being no fan of mining & metals, I learned to respect his intellect, rapidity & clarity of writing, tireless work ethic, and unfailing good humor. I am so saddened to hear of Tuvia's passing.  Although it was many years ago when we worked together  (LF Rothschild?  Lehman? or both? late '80s-early 90s), I always remember what a joy it was to be around him.   It was also so nice to have another kosher-eating, Shomer Shabbat equity analyst in the department (which was definitely NOT common back then).  I've enjoyed watching him on TV over the years, meeting him at various conferences and Wall Street events, and seeing  him grow into the rock-star that he ultimately became.... "local boy makes good".   As all others noted, he remained a mensch and never let his fame get to his head.  A wonderful human being.... such a loss to us all.

My deepest condolences on the loss of one of the greatest men I have had the pleasure of knowing. Tobias was a mentor, and father figure, and a friend for over a decade. Once a week, I'd check my inbox to brush up on his latest note, knowing that when he called we'd have to pore over it until the next tangent or off-colour joke would take centre stage. Once a month, at least, we would talk an hour away without noticing the time. I still have voicemails I can't listen to and now can't bear to delete. And at least once a quarter, we would get out to dinner, drinks, a lunch, a ball game or even the odd Habs game. I hate hockey, still do, always will, but I've been to more games than I have fingers to count because the company was always the reason to go. Just as often as I must have heard Tobias use "Call me maybe" in a meeting or hear him tell me about the time he made a joke about shrinkage on CNBC, at hockey games, he got to listen to me tell him there's no icing on a power play, and that dump and chase ruined the modern game. It was the only hockey banter I had, and it's all I'll ever care to acquire.
I was lucky to have a great boss take me along to meet a like mind in Tobias, and was blown away at how impishly funny and curious he was about every topic we discussed and every person he met in the room. As the years progressed and my analysts came with me, Tobias cared about them all, whether they were at my firm or not any more. The world was his family, and we all mourn with you.
One day I hope I can be thought of as a fraction of the family man, the funny man or even the finance man that he was, and I'll always have his example in my mind to help lead the way. We last saw each other during the holidays in 2019, perhaps his last trip out west, and we had plans to get together in August before that trip got postponed. I'm glad I got to hear about his family trips this summer, and that you all had that time together.

I am very sorry for your loss of Tobias. I have known him as a client of Citigroup for the last 20 years. I have benefited so much from his wisdom, clarity of thought and dedication to his work. Moreover I have always been treated by him as a friend- someone that he could easily and disarmingly share personal anecdotes with. He was warm and generous with me, and spoke often in proud terms of his family. I can only imagine what a husband and father he was at home. There are some people the world simply can't afford to lose; Tobias is one of those.

His family and closest friends have lost someone who is uniquely beloved; the rest of us grieve for a person who possessed the rare ability to blend intelligence and wit with empathy and consideration. I got to know Tobias after I moved from Canada to the US to work for the Wall Street Journal, and we bonded over our identity as people with lives in New York who had roots in Canada (OK, so I wasn't from Montreal...) I could always trust him to be thoughtful when I reached out to him for ideas or comments; he always returned my calls (even when I was just trying to make sense of something quirky in the markets). In the decades I've been covering markets, which closely overlapped with the decades he devoted to doing his best work for his clients, he was one of the kindest and smartest people I encountered.

I had the privilege of working closely with Tobias during the past few years and always valued the opportunity to trade views on markets, share thoughts on current events and catch up on life in general when we would meet for a bite to eat or take in a hockey game. I was always astounded by his dedication to his clients and the unparalleled rigor of his work, but especially remarkable was how he managed to infuse his wit, his love of his family and his faith into all that he did. It was an honor and a blessing to know Tobias, and I mourn with you his untimely passing. He was a wonderful person in every imaginable way.

We played baseball as kids. When Tobias paid a shiva visit after my father passed away he reminded me that our fathers had had a friendly business relationship back in the 60s.  
 
We got back in touch at Smith Barney in the mid-1990s and were colleagues for most of the next 25 years.  His commitment to his Jewish tradition, his enjoyment of his Montreal heritage, his integrity as an analyst and his ability to appreciate and laugh at life were truly unique.  It was great fun to run into each other in Paris or London and sample the local kosher cuisine, notwithstanding his affection for a very middling dairy restaurant in Paris 9th.
 
Tobias was given half of his 120 years but packed twice as much into them. He was unforgettable and will be unforgotten. 

My sincerest condolences to the Levkovich family on the sudden loss of Tobias.  During the 9 years i worked with Tobias at Citi, his smile, wit  and personality were infectious.  He was larger than life.  However, one of the best memories I have of him was when we first met on a company visit more than 20 years ago.  I was just starting my career as a sell side analyst at a competing firm.   Despite working for a competitor, being completely new to the industry and not knowing anyone, Tobias was exceptionally kind including me in his client event and sharing invaluable advice to help me start off.

Tobias spoke Alan ‘s language forthright, intellectually honest, hard work in search for the truth, importance of family, fun loving, smart, clients before firm . Tobias would always do the right thing. He will be missed.

Please accept my sincere condolences. The loss of Tobias is as heartbreaking as it is unimaginable. Tobias was a wonderful person who gave so much of himself. He was a mentor to many and someone whose counsel I relied on religiously. He never sugarcoated his position yet always seemed to know what to say and when to say it (even when I didn't want to hear it). While Tobias was an amazing colleague, he was first and foremost, my friend. 

While he was a market strategist (and a great one at that!), what he did didn't define him, rather it is who he was and what he stood for that I will always remember. He was unequivocal in what was most important to him, namely his family and his faith. 

While it is hard to say goodbye, I want to thank you for sharing him with us. We are all better for having known Tobias and his spirit will live on in the memories he created, counsel he provided, love he shared with so many.

I had the pleasure of working with Tobias for close to 17 years at Citi and am deeply saddened to hear of his passing.  

What I will treasure most are the conversations we had about our families.  He spoke of all of you with such great love and affection and I always admired the balance he exhibited in his life.  

He also was always sure to ask about my family.  As a young working mother, he made sure to tell me that I was doing a good job in both my roles, which I always took to heart because I knew that he meant it.

I had the pleasure of working with Tobias for the first 11 years after Salomon Brothers merged with Smith Barney (Travelers) to eventually become Citi. As a Salomon alum, Tobias was one of the first "Smith Barney" analysts I befriended in the newly-merged research department, and we soon  developed a deep respect for each other -- from both a business and personal life perspective. We loved to debate the market and our stocks, of course, but we also loved to talk about how blessed we were by our respective families and the role each of our faiths played in our lives. 

We kept in touch off and on over the years and his knowledge, wit and friendship will be truly missed. I'm so glad that he had the opportunity to get to know and spend time with his first five grandchildren. Please know that you and Tobias are in our prayers.

I recall having first met Tobias while both at Smith Barney, he in New York me in Zurich. I was impressed by his immense knowledge not only in business but also in other areas of life. We shared in Ice Hockey a huge passion and I still remember going together to the games in Zurich.

Tobias' loss is a blow. His skill as an analyst had a major impact on me while we worked together at Citigroup, but not as much as his friendship.

I admired him - and still admire him - for his example of a life well lived. ​He lived his values and helped others believe they could do likewise.

It is with a heavy heart I write to express my deepest condolences for Tobias's passing. Tobias was just so special to all of us. I worked with Tobias at Citi and he was my Research Buddy.  The idea was to partner the sales team with research analysts in order to bring the teams closer.  This kickstarted a friendship between us that was so special to me. Even though we could not chat all the time, Tobias never missed connecting with me on every Jewish holiday, every US holiday, and even to just send a funny joke or meme to stay in touch.

Sitting with Tobias was like sitting with your oldest friend. If time had passed since you last spoke, you would pick up where you left off. Tobias always gave sagacious advice on whatever was going in your life, his strong sense of jewish identity was infectious and his commitment to his family was inspiring. 

Tobias humanized the finance industry and he touched everyone in his life by showing his intellect, his heart, and even just his friendship.  We are all better knowing Tobias. I will miss him so much.

Tobias was a gem. In the 6+ years I knew him as a colleague at Citi, I feel lucky to have been able to call him a friend.  

Getting FaceTime calls from Tobias at random hours were such a treat. Whether he was calling to talk business,  check up to see how my family and I were doing, or just to tell a new joke, it was always a memorable conversation. I would always leave our chats: (1) smarter than I was before, (2) knowing that he cared about me (and everyone), and (3) with a smile (sometimes laughing out loud). 
And not just one of those three things. All three, every time.

Though I consider myself lucky to have known him as a friend for the past 6+ years, I'm jealous of all that knew him for 20, 30, 40 years.   Tobias is one of a kind, and we should all be thankful for the amount of time spent with him. Whether one conversation or a long friendship/relationship, we are all better off from the time spent with Tobias.  A true gem, in so many ways. 



I have known Tobias for nearly three decades as a  competitor and as a friend. He was always someone I enjoyed working with and I admired his analytical ability and stock market wisdom. My deepest sympathy to his family.

Tobias was not only a work colleague and dear friend for over 20 years, but he was my rabbi as well.  I ashamed to say that we have never met, but I feel like family since he always spoke so kindly about all of you and made me feel a part of his personal life.  It was this warmth that made him so special.  I once even had the pleasure of meeting his father on facetime from Israel.   We spoke often about markets, politics and work, but the thing I enjoyed most was his perspective on life and family. He always taught me about the importance of my Jewish heritage and the values we instill our children .  There was a unique sense of kindness and humility that permeated his soul.   He used to talk to me about God and life often and he always seemed comfortable with this relationship.   We are all blessed to have had such a special person be a part of our lives and I am comforted by these memories which I will cherish forever.

I have met Tobias on my first NYC trip at his office, he welcomed me with a huge smile and was very pleased to meet in person,  full of kindness and genuine attitude...May you rest in peace !!!

I only met Tobias one time.  He was visiting institutional clients in my city, but made time to stop in to my Smith Barney branch, and chat with advisors, including me.  He sat down in my office, and we chatted like old friends.  His down to earth humility is something I will never forget.  I've thought of that time we had together many times over the years since he visited with me, and I remind myself that his humility and kindness are beautiful examples for all of us. My deepest condolences to the family.  I met Tobias in 1994.  His dedication and passion for the industry has not wavered since he was an analyst until his last role as Chief US strategist. I am shocked and saddened to learn through CNBC that Tobias has passed much too early. As a fellow Canadian, I have watched Tobias on many occasions, his wisdom and wit will be missed by everyone. Such a loss, my condolences to his family.

Today I heard of Tobias’ passing and mourned the man on whom I relied for wise opinions and kind counsel for over 20 years.  We had spirited debates at times but it was always in an attempt to understand the financial world around us. He would joke with me when we had to do TV interviews together and calm me when I was asked impossible questions.  In an industry full of vipers, he was uniquely good. He is missed.

Tobias was a wonderful colleague who touched everyone with whom he worked. 

For so many of us Tobias's gifts of humour, intelligence and capacity for goodness were signs of what makes life worth living and we wish long life to his family, children and grandchildren.

To Barbara and all of Tobias’ family, I am so dreadfully sorry for your loss and send my most sincere condolences.

Tobias was a wonderful, funny, charming man, full of anecdotes and jokes (often bad ones) but, above all, he was unfailingly gracious and kind. I had the pleasure of having an office ‘down the hall’ from Tobias at Citi for over ten years. I would frequently wander in to ask him a question on the US market and would find myself still there chatting - well, listening, actually - half and hour later.

He was the star of our strategy offsite dinners and as he regaled the assembled group with story after story, he was always able to ‘drop’ the name of somebody famous who he had just spoken to or met. The standard procedure was then to give Tobias a ‘red card’ soccer/football-style and he loved that and took the fun we were poking at him with great spirit. (We were all a bit jealous anyway as he was so much better connected than any of us!)

However, his kindest gift to me was getting and keeping in touch after I left Citi in 2013 to make sure I was doing ok. We remained close friends in the following years and I - along with my former colleague Markus (Rosgen) and his long-time associate and friend, Lorraine - was still having Zoom calls with him right up to the end. 

I love you Tobias and I am so grateful to have known you. I will miss your wit, friendship, goofy humor and, above all, your kindness. Rest In Peace, my friend. 

As a warm Jew, Tobias frequently visited Israel and came by our Migdal Insurance offices regularly to present his views of the financial markets. Tobias was always welcomed here with excitement as chairs rolled through the corridors to accommodate all avid listeners. 
Tobias had the rare combination of methodological rigor and invaluable market wisdom;  wisdom that can be acquired only and solely by firsthand market turmoil experiences. 
Alongside infographics of prices and permia to the best standards of finance textbooks, Tobias filled the room with roars of laughter as he shared personal anecdotes from his career and stories of his beloved family. His tales always carried a relevant moral about the markets and even life in general. 
We will miss Tobias and his sobering and enlightening views. We  offer our deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues

Tuvia and I were close childhood friends in Montreal, spending many Shabbat afternoons together in our elementary school years.  As adults, we kept in occasional touch, reconnecting after a mid-life divergence of paths.  Whatever the stage of life, it was always such a pleasure to hang with him and our friendship was at all times easy and gently flowing.  He was truly a good soul.  ברוך דיין האמת

Dear Levkovich family,
I was fortunate to have  known Tobias since 2004 as a colleague and fellow strategist,  me based in HK. 
Through him I got to know the Levkovich family.  I recall anecdotes about the shopping prowess of Barbara & his daughters when discussing American consumers, the keen interest in ice hockey shared with his son,  photos of the grand children or of his dad having a pizza with him.  He was a family man,  proud of  each of you for what you’ve achieved and he loved you unconditionally.
 We shared many trips, we both liked to eat, dinners together held a special place for us.
When in  NY,   at the end of dinner he’d always order a dessert to take home to Barbara or the family. 
Once, we arrived late in Paris  and headed off  for dinner. We shared an entrecôte de Boeuf,  Tobias decided to crown his with a piece of foie gras, I abstained.
The next day we had a client lunch. I kicked it off, the waiters came out for the gentiles, two generous slices of foie gras.  For Tobias - a large green salad.  He looked at me with that “what happened here?” look.  No sooner was lunch over,  we were off to Rue des Rosiers to buy some kosher foie gras for Tobias to take home!
Tobias got his own back, years later we had a client dinner in NY. I was served rice and fish, a Hong Kong staple. He got the largest Ribeye and roasted potatoes I’d ever seen. He smiled, as I stole his potatoes during his presentation.
Another time,  we were in Montreal for his 58th.  Rather than have a fancy meal, he saw his brother and we went to buy family gifts at Roots,  bagels and smoked meats. We ended up having a bagel with smoked meat and a beer for dinner. What mattered to Tobias was the company not the fluff.
Tobias was WYSIWYG and I loved him for it.  Whilst I can only imagine your pain, all who knew him share your loss and we shall miss him greatly. He was a mensch.

Dear Levkovitch family,
I was saddened to read in financial media of the tragic death of Mr. Levkovitch. I never met him and only knew of him through occasional appearences on CNBC or Bloomberg.
However, in one small, or maybe not-so-small sense , I did know him. Ever since the pandemic his media appearences were from home and I could not but notice that he appeared against a background of sifrei kodesh. Whether this was intentional or inadvertent, I'm sure that others of his professional stature would prefer to hide that part of his life and  go on TV in fromt of a library of financial books.  The fact that he shared his "home base" with millions of viewers reflected for me , a viewer from Jerusalem, the fact that together  his professional wisdom and his pleasant manner that expressed itself in the interviews, he was also proud to be committed to another calling. 
May you find comfort in the many memories you have of him.

My deepest sympathies on the sudden and tragic passing of you husband, father and grandfather. I had the privilege to work with Tobias for 11 years. He was an amazing strategist, co worker and friend. Despite his brilliance, he was grateful and filled with humility.  I enjoyed our conversations on the market, could never out chart or work the man, and his wit was equally impressive. And, it loved his holiday poem-also sheer brilliance. But, what I most admired was his positivity and love for his family. He was an inspiration. 

My heart goes out to your family, and though it feels empty, I can only pass along my deepest condolences. A sad time for not only the "Street" and team Citi, but also for all those that were lucky enough to know Tobias.

My heartfelt condolences to the Levkovich family at such a tragic moment. Tobias was a trusted advisor for many years during my time at Moore Capital Management in New York and London. He was a brilliant thinker who, armed with the courage of his convictions, never failed to challenge a consensus; he made all of us better investors through the sharing of his  keen insights and encyclopedic knowledge. It is this spirit of generosity, coupled with a sharp self-deprecating wit, that made Tobias so valued as a friend and colleague. 
Our industry mourns the loss of one of its greats, a true force of nature who will be sorely missed, and never forgotten. I also know there are no words to describe the void he has left in his family, from whom he was taken so unfairly . My deepest sympathy.

Tobias was a fellow analyst when I was at Smith Barney,  I can say no more except that I highly respected him  as a professional and as a person.  I want to add my name to the many who will miss him.

To say we adore you and will miss you is an understatement.  I am lucky to have known you for the last 26 plus years. You have always been incredibly creative, brilliant, funny and more importantly a truly wonderful human being. You were my go to.

I remember many years ago marketing with you as a Cap Goods analyst, you were a rock star. It was a treat to bring you to see clients amd you were always so interesting, creative and spot on. Everyone wanted to speak with you.

One day you said, I am going to make a move and change jobs, I am going to become a US Equity strategist. I looked at you and  said , “
Are you nuts!?   You are a star Cap Goods Analyst!!! Why would you want to do that?!!!!??” 

“  Well, I am bored and need more of a challenge. I have done this for years and it’s time for a change. Besides, my cap goods experience has given me a great background to understand economic cycles and I want to try it”, you replied.

We’ll try you did and succeeded with flying colors and brilliance. Making some of the best calls on the markets ever! You did not stoop ever  to the fluff that others gravitated to.  But that Tobias , is why we love you and will miss you, fluff was not your style.

The world has a hole now that you have left, but your humor, attitude, inclusiveness, creativity and brilliance will live with us forever.  I will miss you terribly, even if you did call me Blondie and Barbie at times!!!

Tobias was a great thinker and contributor to Wall Street, and was truly a class act. What a loss to the community. My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to his loved ones.

I worked with him for many years at Citi, and he always captivated the room and made everyone think and laugh. I worked with Tobias and for Tobias for several years at Smith Barney/Citi from 1997. First as a US salesperson recommending his industrial stock picks and then as part of a marketing team when he became Chief US Strategist. 

He would always compliment me on my eye for detail on his roadshows and my respect for his family values. From many roadshows grew a friendship and often a lively discussion on our world. And so many memories of laughter and viewing countless photos of his beautiful family. 

When I left Citigroup, I left so blessed he kept in touch. He would text me " Coming to London, fancy a cup of tea?" No matter how busy he was, we always found time for tea. Okay, lets be more accurate, his version of tea was usually some kind of caffeinated drink with cream on the top!!

Tobias, Marble Arch will always be our place for tea. If I ever need to speak to you, I know the place to go and stand, under Marble Arch.  You will always be in my heart, as a colleague and dear friend. Your guidance got me through some tough times in my life and your friendship was always there. 

I and so many of us will miss you greatly and my thoughts and prayers are with Barbara and all your family at this time.

Since I had to leave Citi, 5 years ago, for health reasons, he showed me that he was a good friend, finding time to meet me every time he came to Madrid and taking care about my life (even with his super busy working life)

I’ve known Tobias all my 20+ career. When he first came to Dublin for a marketing trip and I learned he was Canadian we immediately became friends. He made me feel at home at Citi at my young age. Our friendship grew over the years but strengthened even more after I returned to Canada.  I’ll cherish our Montreal trips, treking across town between meetings to go  to St Viateur or a Roots store to ensure his grandchildren had some Canadiana in their closets.  I’ll forever think of you whenever I hold a “Timmies”. I was never going to buy you another Mocha again however…those are way too sweet!  I’ll miss you terribly.  

I joined Smith Barney in October 1990. Tobias was one of the first equity analysts I met on my first visit to the old SB New York office in midtown. Tobias immediately made me feel comfortable and at home. He told me about Smith Barney, sharing a little local gossip and inevitably a joke or two. Our meeting ran way over time but he never complained. 
Tobias’s work ethic was an example to us all. He always had time for pesky equity salesmen and demanding clients. He always returned calls and emails. We became friends as well as close colleagues. I could call him or meet with him confident in the knowledge I would learn something new and interesting. A salesman’s dream result. 
I just assumed Tobias would always be around, I looked forward to seeing him on occasion in New York or London on a social basis. I cannot believe he is gone. He will be very sadly missed and impossible to replace. 

Please accept my deepest condolences for your tragic loss. He was a dear friend for over 25 years. We worked and traveled to Israel together for many years.. I will greatly miss seeing him in NYC. My heart goes out to you during this difficult time.

Tobias was a wonderful man. I worked at Smith Barney when he joined the firm's research department. He followed the machinery stocks like Caterpillar and John Deere. To make his presentations more interesting he carried with him the small metal toy models of the equipment and he would put them on the table in front of him. Later in his career, as our strategist, he made some superb forecasts that really helped our clients. He created his panic/euphoria model, which I still use, looking it up in Barron's every week. He definitely made the world a better place. My condolences to his family.

I have only happy memories of Tobias. Considering I have known him for 21 years, that’s incredible, and very much a measure of the kind of person Tobias was. I learned something new from him very often – whether before/after a morning call; or when he read some research I published and called to discuss; when he had a suggestion or advice; when I watched him regale a room with an anecdote or educate us with his point of view; even when he took time out of his busy day to call and celebrate an achievement. Sometimes with the best teachers, we don’t even realize we’re learning and growing. That was Tobias. 

I am a better person and a better analyst for having known Tobias. I will miss him. 


I was heartbroken to read about Tobias. He was an amazing person. We met in 2000 when I first started working at Citi and bonded immediately. He loved to debate technology with me and was right most of the time. He had a brilliant mind, a quick smile and a love of life.

We haven't worked together for many years, I always smiled seeing him on CNBC.  He never changed. 

Tobias would always reach out around the holidays with an email wishing a happy Passover or Sweet New Year.  When I saw the news, I went to my gmail account and put in "Tobias" Up popped all of the emails for the past decade. And every response I sent back. It really hit me to see that there was no Rosh Hashanah email this year.  

May his neshama have an aliya and may his family be comforted at this time. He was one of a kind and he will really be missed everywhere that he went and by everyone who knew him.

I worked with Tobias in the early 1990s, when he was a machinery analyst at Smith Barney. We traveled to Houston to visit a company that we contemplated covering jointly. I’ll never forget going around Houston in search for a  Kosher place for him to eat dinner.

He loved his family, his profession and was, in my opinion, deeply religious. His straddled two worlds very effectively. Naturally gregarious, he enjoyed imparting his knowledge and working with others in any capacity. 

Every now and then, in my work travels, we’d cross paths and he was unchanged, even though his corporate responsibilities had increased. He always spoke of his family, sports and mutual acquaintances. 

My deepest condolences to his family. 

Tuvia taught so many of us how to live in the world of modernity and Judaism.  Never comprised on his beliefs and proved to us all that we can be successful and have both.  I will miss him greatly in shul and at Citi.



While I admittedly did not know Tobias well, my interactions with him over the past 6 years at Citi were memorable, enlightening and always left me in very good spirits. He consistently extended an arm of friendship and I always appreciated the occasions he consulted me on healthcare topics. I will miss his annual holiday poem which I always found to be so thoughtful, creative and a truly masterful work every year. I want to extend my condolences to Tobias’ family and I wish them each a long and healthy life.

Tobias not only embraced life to its fullest but also embraced everyone and their individual talents and helped them be a better person.  I started working with Tobias 18 years ago and he always was the most adapting and loving person.   It did not matter if the person was a highly educated or uneducated person he loved them all and treated everyone as special.  He is a role model to all and made everyone a stronger member of society.  
The only way to finish a meeting with Tobias was with a smile on your face and encouragement to do better.  

My sincere condolences to you and your family. Tobias was such a smart, lovely man . He always sought the levity in every situation and had a great self-deprecating sense of humor. He had a warmth and sense of humility that was rare to witness among Wall Street intellects.  I will deeply miss his insights on markets. But even more so, I will miss our time catching up over Nobu sushi (he was a master orderer there!) on our families, the plight of our favority hockey teams, and politics.

My sincerest condolences to the entire Levkovich family on the sudden and tragic loss of Tobias.  I first met Tobias when I joined Citi in 2004 - and was taken a back when the Chief Equity Strategist just popped in to my office to introduce himself and chat.  Tobias touched everyone he met.  He was completely selfless.  It didn't matter who you were - how junior, how senior, what job you had - he made time for you.  That made people feel special.

And for me, he was so much more than a colleague.  He was my mentor,  my close friend,  someone who I knew I could trust.  Someone I knew was looking out for me and my family.  Someone who would just routinely check in on me - in good times and bad.  More recently simply by facetiming me.  And when the screen showed "Tobias" - I simply smiled.  Seeing his name pop up made me smile.  I knew I would learn something.  I knew I would laugh.  And I knew I would be able to put things in perspective.

Tobias was also extremely generous and helpful professionally.  As a young junior analyst taking over a large franchise in '08 - Tobias continue to help me.  He attended every one of my annual conferences in Florida.  While he always said he only came for the free food and sun,  I know he came because he cared.  He cared for me, he cared for our firm, and he cared for our corporate and investing clients.  He would get up on stage in front of over a thousand people... and he would make them laugh (self deprecating of course) - and he would make them think.

We also bonded over countless Montreal Canadiens games...whether we were there together live in person in arenas across the US and Canada, or watching together on TV.  I will miss these exchanges immensely. I'm grateful to have pics & videos to relive our time together.

I can't underscore what Tobias has meant to me.  And I know what he meant to others. Tobias was simply a great human being.  I endeavor to be quarter of the man he was.  

Tobias was a wonderful and warm man with a great sense of humor and huge intellect who touched many people. Everyone liked him who met him and whilst I was only at Citi for a few years even after I went to another firm we still met in NY or London, he was great fun to be around and is a great loss for the financial community. 

Tobias and I go all the way back to the start of our respective careers, from a fateful lunch with Carl Davis at the World Financial Center to help convince Tobias to take the strategist role and leave industrial company research in the dust to our discussion just a couple of week's ago regarding market conditions, the state of the buy side and as always, corny puns. I must say with all sincerity to his family that Tobias was a great friend and a true straight-up guy. I will miss him terribly and can only hope that all of the comments here confirm what a special person he was to so many. He was incredibly proud of his family and never failed to mention it in our many chats. Rest in peace, my friend.

Tobias has been a true friend, colleague and partner at Citi for me for many years as well as for many at the firm.  Anyone who had any contact with him would consider him a friend as a result of his care for anyone he met.  His humor and jovial nature always helped to overcome the challenges and the volatility of our profession and kept our spirits uplifted.  He was an extraordinary and highly insightful strategist who lifted all boats in research and was a valuable asset to the firm.  I will miss him greatly.

Tobias was a force who made an indelible mark on the lives of many others. He was loquacious, warm, funny and endearing. He wore his humanity like a favorite spring jacket, often and with pride, making it almost impossible not to like/respect Tobias.

Beyond a valued colleague, Tobias was a friend.  The letters of his name help to convey how I saw him — He was: 

• Transparent - He wore his heart on his sleeve. Tobias told you what he thought, whether or not you wanted to hear it, if he felt you needed to know it. In business, no one was too high up the chain, and those willing to listen were better for it.

• Open - Tobias was outgoing, caring, and continuously building bridges. His door was always open to anyone from admin to senior executive. He was at his most comfortable serving as a confidante and mentor. 

• Bound (to his family and his faith) - While Tobias understood the need to separate his professional and personal lives, he often spoke with great pride about his family, which he cherished.

• Insightful - He had a perspective on myriad subjects: stocks, politics, Canadian hockey, etc. Agree or disagree, Tobias always made me think. I consistently enjoyed learning from him over the years. 

• Admirable - He had strong convictions in what he saw as right. Yet for a man with such stellar accomplishments, Tobias kept his ego in check. He always wanted to do the right thing and accepted responsibility for what he could do better.

• Self-deprecating - He loved to make others laugh, whether 1-on-1 or in a full room. Meetings with Tobias were longer, but more entertaining. His charm lied in his willingness to poke fun at himself rather than other people.

Tobias was taken far too early. But if the measure of a life well lived is based on the number of hearts & minds that one truly impacts, then surely Tobias lived an extraordinary life. He will be sorely missed and fondly remembered.



What a terrible loss for his family and everyone that knew him. I’m sending  my deepest condolences.  Tobias was kind and very helpful anytime I needed his help on a report I was writing. But my best memory of him was from a Citi offsite a few years ago when he took center stage in karaoke.  I still laugh when I think of our rendition of Paradise by the Dashboard Light. I will think of him and smile whenever I hear that song. May his memory be a blessing.

Tobias authored the first investment research analyst report I ever read, all the way back in 1994 when I was an intern buy-side analyst at an institutional investment management firm, and I've been avidly reading his research ever since. Everyone on the buy-side respected Tobias and his work. We will all miss him.

What can you say to accurately reflect Tobias?   Hard to pick from the innumerable stories and animated conversations over the last 20-plus years.    

I will remember the relationships he fostered, the opinions he offered, the time he generously gave, and his insights (on the markets and so many other topics).
