Joel Kaplan passed away on April 12, 2021. Beloved husband of 59 years to Joan (z”l), beloved father of Andrea (Steve) and Pamela (Jon), extraordinary grandfather to Emily, Max and Jamie. Joel was a widely respected attorney, and was an active member of B’nai B’rith since 1961 where he held virtually every position at the local, district and international level culminating in his election to the position of International President in 2002. He was elected to a life-term as Honorary President of B’nai B’rith at the end of his second term, in 2006. He also served on the executive committees of the Anti-Defamation League and the World Zionist Organization. Joel graduated from Brooklyn College in 1958 with a B.A. in Economics, and received his law degree from New York University School of Law in 1961. He is listed in “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in American Law”. Born in Brooklyn, Joel had a brief foray into politics, running for the New York State Senate in 1974 and serving as the Town of Hempstead assistant attorney and chairman of the town’s Public Employment Relations Board. Joel was a dear friend and trusted advisor to many, and will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, warmth, love of conversation, and devotion to his family.
Funeral services will be held at Boulevard-Riverside Chapel in Hewlett, NY on Monday, April 19, 2021 commencing at 11:30am with interment to immediately follow at Beth Moses Cemetery in West Babylon, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
