March 6, 2021 at Mt. Sinai South Nassau Hospital in Oceanside.
Jayme was the fourth of six children born to Seymour and
Gertrude Davis of Atlantic Beach, NY. She liked to call herself the
middle child in a family that had none! She spent the better part of
her full and memorable life in Hewlett where she raised her two
sons and lived with husband and dance partner Warren. Jayme
was a force in the printing business for three decades in
Manhattan until printing become all but obsolete in the age of
technology. She retired and dedicated her time to volunteering at
Mt. Sinai South Nassau, the same hospital in which she died -
and for the Nassau County Auxiliary Police as an officer serving
her hometown of Hewlett. When she met Warren she found and
embraced country western line dancing, a passion which, along
with reading and wintering in South Beach, FL, were lifelong.
Though she worked fervently as an active volunteer for the
community, it was family that held Jayme’s heart. Though not
physically close she never hesitated to reach out and lend a hand
- usually more. She was nurturing, compassionate, kind, attentive
and generous, never hesitating to help those she loved - giving
everything of herself and asking for nothing in return. Jayme
cared ardently for her brother Martin, who had Downs Syndrome,
becoming his guardian when their parents were both gone. She
was tough on the outside and let few see her own fragile softness
and vulnerabilities- leaving her to help others while
simultaneously shouldering her own needs and struggles in
silence. To those who knew her, she was a reliable and loyal
friend, mother and grandmother who was perfectly imperfect - and
wanted nothing more than to be loved and appreciated for her
efforts, even when they were humanly flawed.
Jayme’s greatest pride were her grandchildren who survive her -
Savannah, Jillian, Gabrielle, and Tyler - and sons Michael Davis
(Erin) of North Carolina and Robert Cohen (Linda) of Minnesota.
She is also survived by her loving husband Warren Stuart, brother
David Davis (Ruth), sisters Laurie Stone (Matthew) and Andrea
Ganguzza (Mark) and their children, step-son Robert Stuart
(Jean) and step-daughter Diane Stuart. She is pre-deceased by
her sister Lynne Diener and brother, Martin Davis and husband
Stanley Horowitz.
Jayme’s happy place was lounging on the beach or by a pool,
caressed by the sun, escaping to a new place inside the newest
best seller clutched in hand. That’s exactly where we imagine her
right now.
