Clinton Raymond Martin, 77, passed away on June 25, 2024, in Hesperia, California. Born on August 25, 1946, in Dayton, Texas, Clint was a respected entrepreneur and a cherished member of his community.
Clint's journey began in his hometown where he attended Colbert Elementary and graduated from Colbert High in 1963. He furthered his education at Texas Southern University. His commitment to service was evident early on as he served four years in the Air Force and six years in the Army Reserve dedicating himself to his country with honor. He was awarded three medals while serving. The National Defense Service Medal (NDSM), The Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon (SAEMR), and The Air Force Good Conduct Medal (AFGCM).
After his military service, Clint embarked on a successful career in pest control, founding Martin Exterminators. Starting with just a single truck, he grew his business into the second largest Black Exterminating company in California. Under his leadership, Martin Exterminators became synonymous with hard work and integrity.
Clint was not only a savvy businessman but also a pillar in his community. He was actively involved with 100 Black Men, focusing on empowering and uplifting others. His belief in second chances led him to hire anyone willing to work, reflecting his inclusive and supportive nature.
Beyond his professional life, Clint had a vibrant array of hobbies. He was an avid fisherman, a passionate gardener, and an enthusiastic cook. His love for music was profound; he played the saxophone in his early years, and he was a singer in a band while serving in the military in Korea. Traveling was another joy, allowing him to explore new places and create lasting memories with his family, and his relationship with GOD.
Clint is survived by his loving wife, Gerri Bell Martin, whom he married on September 21, 1971. He leaves behind a legacy through his children, Tonja Martin Moore (Johnnie), Cheyenne Kenyatta Martin, Kito Martin, Dr. Shewanna Martin Talley (Jarvis), Nicole Laureano, and Amber Laureano-Bowman (Michael). His life was further enriched by his siblings, Barbara Edwards, Herman Martin (Betty), Curtis Martin (Jean), Velma Martin Myles (Don), Earvin Martin (Shirlene), Antonita Gaston, and Sharon Bailey. His joy was multiplied by his grandchildren Andre' Gilliam, Princess Moore, Andriana Moore, Zion Moore, Sinceria Brown, Paul Brown, Jesse Martin, Micchi Berry, Maia Talley, Joia Talley, Kaia Talley, Braydon Bowman, and Mason Bowman, and great-grandchildren Asaiah Gilliam, Imani Thornton, Gianna Moore, Michael Crowder, Alexis Brown, Ethan Brown, Paul Brown Jr., Bella Brown, Milianah Martin, God-Daughter Danielle Hasberry, and God- GrandChildren Ashley Hasberry, Jibri Hasberry, and Juhaqd Moore. And not to mention a host full of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Jeraldine Johnson Martin Atkins and Curtis (C.W. Martin), and his siblings Juanita Atkins Johnson, Robert Atkins, and Anthony Atkins Sr.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 27, 2024, at Kern Hesperia Mortuary, located at 16120 Main St., Hesperia, CA 92345. His final resting place will be at Riverside National Cemetery on July 29, 2024. The family invites friends and community members to join in celebrating Clint's remarkable life.
