Wanda Avery Twitchell, 85, died March 7, 2020 in Henderson, Nevada. Wanda was born February 13, 1935 in Venice, Utah to Cyrus Lincoln and Amy Collings Avery. Her death came after a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease. Because of the Coronavirus epidemic, services will be limited to a private family memorial.
After telling a high school teacher she was going to college to get a good husband, in her first college class she met Neil C Twitchell and received her MRS in one year. They were married May 26, 1954.
Wanda was a loving kind mother to six children, grandmother to 26 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She was a kind, giving and loving friend to all who knew her. She loved to sew (including the dress in the picture), tat, read, camp, go on long walks, go to yard sales with friends and tell stories to her grandchildren. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served diligently in many callings. They included many auxiliary organizations, ordinance worker in the Las Vegas and Nauvoo Illinois Temples, a missionary to India serving with her mission president husband, assistant and then matron in the Las Vegas temple, and stake camp director. Besides her mission to India, she served a mission in the Nauvoo temple with her husband. When Wanda was called to serve in any capacity, she did so with all her heart.
Wanda will be laid to rest privately at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada under the direction of Palm Mortuary.
