Tom was born on September 4, 1951 to the late John Edgar Drake and Mary Lou Drake (Wilcock) in Pioche, NV. He grew up in Henderson, NV where he graduated from Basic High School in 1969.
Tom began his career working at Pacific Engineering for two years and then went on to work at Titanium Metals Corporation (Timet) for 20 years. He began in MAG recovery until his injuries to his wrists lead him to an apprenticeship program where he became a journeyman Instrumental Technician. As a result of the 1993 Timet strike, Tom pursued and was hired to open the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino as an Operating Engineer and retired after 23 years.
In Tom's younger adult years, baseball played a big part in his life as he played, coached and umpired. His other hobbies included: hunting, bowling and playing pool. He was an avid sports fan of the Yankees, 49ers and Nascar with his favorite driver being Ricky Rudd.
Tom's favorite holiday was Christmas where he enjoyed decorating his home and engaging in a friendly neighborhood competition. Tom also loved his cats and enjoyed feeding the community bunnies.
Tom is predeceased by his younger brother, Alan Wilcock. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Karen Drake; brother and sister-in-law, David and Debra Drake; daughters and son-in-law, Pamela and Bob James and Susan Hollinger; son, John Drake; sister-in-law, Connie Wilcock; step daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl Ross, Linda and Paul Braver; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Palm Mortuary located at 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV on Friday, February 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
