Ronald Evan Katz, age 57, of Henderson, Nevada passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2022. He was born February 28, 1965 on Beale Air Force Base, in Yuba City, California to Gene and Dottie Katz. Ron's father had a career in the U.S. Military, so the family relocated a lot, living in many places; but, Ron always called Florida his home.
As a young boy growing up with his two brothers, Ricky and Robbie, and his sister, Terri; Ron loved the outdoors. He spent a lot of time riding his bike and getting into mischief with his brothers. He had an appreciation for music, and enjoyed playing the Saxophone in his high school marching band. Ronald graduated from Lincoln High School in 1983.
On February 16th, 1985 Ronald exchanged wedding vows with Donna Casterline at the First Christian Church of Tallahassee, Florida. Together the couple would embark on a wonderful journey that would span over 37 years. Their first adventure would begin shortly after they were married, as Ron enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on March 20, 1985, and the couple would head overseas to the Philippines.
Ron served honorably in the U.S. Air Force in the 3rd TFW, and the 3rd EMS at Clark AB in the Philippines from 1985-1988, focusing on F-15 tactical aircraft maintenance. It was while in the service, Ron would continue his education earning his Associates degree from the Air Force Community College. Through his hard work and dedication, Ron would earn the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, Air Force Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon. He finished his military service in the 33 AGS (TAC) at Eglin AFB, which would bring him back home to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
Upon discharge from active duty, Ron would continue to apply his trade skills in the civilian sector. He worked at an independant aircraft maintenance station in Orlando, Florida until 1997 where he was hired by Southwest Airlines. Ron worked for the next 23 years as a Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic for Southwest Airlines, retiring in 2020.
Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who loved the outdoors and spending time with his growing family. He and Donna were blessed with two children and four grandchildren. Ron loved fishing, boating, and camping with his family. He was generous and giving, always looking to help others. He was a man of faith and a member of Giving Life Ministries for 23 years.
All who knew him would agree that Ronald was a pillar of the community. He lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Ronald Evan Katz did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched was given the chance to become a better person.
Ronald was preceded in death by his father Gene Katz; and his brothers: Ricky and Robbie Katz. He is survived by his wife, Donna Katz; daughter, Heather Katz; son, Robert Katz (Aly); mother, Dottie Katz; sister, Terri Katz; and his grandchildren: Tyler Thompson, Sierra Picardo, Abbie Katz and Ellie Katz.
A Celebration of Life with military honors will be held Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015.
