Born in East Boston to Frank and Phyllis (DiPerri) DiLorenzo, Robert was surrounded by family. His mother was a pioneer as a working woman and; therefore, Robert (better known as Bobby then) was mostly was raised by his Auntie Ellie and his grandmother, Nonnie. Other aunties that had a gentle hand in raising him were Auntie Mary and Auntie Rose. Uncle Charlie was usually around to play with him as well.
Robert was an only child so, fortunately, with all those aunties came lots of cousins…Denise, Cheryl and Stephen…Allen, Richard and Dennis…Diane, Lisa and Nancy…mostly all located within 6 apartments in two apartment buildings on Lexington St. in East Boston. With his wife, Lucille, he had two girls, but Lucille’s sister, Tootsie and her husband Leo, gave him four boys to hang with and watch grown up…Little Leo, Stevie, Scott, and Rick, whom he treasured.
Robert graduated high school, spent four years in the National Guard, and by his late 20s had a beautiful wife, two kids and a house in the suburbs, all of which was made possible by a 30 year career at Polaroid in Waltham, MA, where he started on the loading docks and worked his way into management.
What was a once a year vacation to Las Vegas turned into twice a year and then to retirement in the desert, where he spent his retired days playing at local casinos, seeing movies with his daughters, and enjoying all the wonderful foods they would make him, like homemade pizza and lasagna and, of course, at Christmas, his favorite, “the meal”.
Robert was all about family. When he announced that he was moving from Massachusetts to the Las Vegas area to retire, his daughter Doreen and her family beat him out there and the other daughter, Michelle and her family followed shortly after. Fortunately, moving to a vacation paradise brought lots of family out to visit. When family visited from back east, it was like Robert was on vacation himself.
Robert was a wonderful father and an even more amazing grandfather who always provided well for his family. He will be missed by us all…survived by his daughter Doreen (DiLorenzo) Alexander and her husband Bill and their two children Samantha and Andrew and Sam’s beau John. Also survived by his daughter Michelle DiLorenzo and spouse Diane Parsons.
