Paul Therning Tullgren II, aka Squid and Paully Wally, was born on October 22, 1963, and earned his wings Friday, September 4, 2015, in Henderson, Nevada. Born and raised in Henderson, he was a plumber by trade and loved to travel, camp, hunt and visit museums. An employee of the fictitious Quickie, Quickie Bar & Deli, Paul was known for his unflagging sense of humor, and for his prowess at juggling while riding a unicycle. He loved animals, especially his dogs, and was a dedicated volunteer at Roos-N-More Zoo in Moapa.
Paul enjoyed honing his skills during Monday night card games with his father and friends, and playing disc golf, alone or with reluctant disc-wielding family members. He was an avid reader, a Star Trekkie, and a diehard Oakland Raiders fan through thick and thin (mostly thin). He fiercely loved his family and doted on his young grandchildren.
We will miss his generous spirit, his sense of humor, his compassionate nature, his legendary Sunday morning breakfast, but most of all, we will miss him.
Paul is survived by his wife and best friend, Debora (Debbie) of Henderson; his children, Gareth (Starlyn) Nelson of Henderson, Kristina Maakestad of Tucson, AZ, Cheryl (Joshua) O’Dell of Omaha, NE, Sean (Afton) Tullgren of Olathe, KS; his grandchildren, Rhett and Kennedy O’Dell, Margot Bird Nelson, and Ander Tullgren; his parents, Paul and Alice Tullgren of Henderson; his brother, David (Julie) Tullgren of Reno and children Sierra and Tristan; his sister-in-law and Boggle rival, Andrea (Mark) Uyemura of Brea, CA, and daughter Kate; and two canine companions, Bessie Mae and Vegas. Paul is additionally survived by his honorary daughter, Sae Jang of Seoul Korea.
A celebration of his life will be held in Henderson on Saturday, September 19, 1pm – 5pm at the family home. In lieu of flowers, his family respectfully requests donations be made to Roos-N-More Zoo at www.roosnmore.org
Arrangements under the direction of Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, Henderson, NV.
