Marilyn was 72 when she passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 here in Henderson, NV. It’s hard to say goodbye. We wish that we had more time, and perhaps that during the time we had we had spent more of it together. We wish that so much of her life had not been lost to her health issues, that things could have been different for her, and for us. While we know that she is at peace and that her struggles are at an end, there is pain and sadness. But even though she is gone, she has left the legacy of her love and perseverance. The ways she touched our lives will remain, and we ask you to keep those memories alive by sharing them with us and with one another.
Marilyn Patterson was born Marilyn Dee Slade on January 14, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents had to walk through the snow to the hospital as they were unable to get a cab. She was the third child and the first daughter born to Lynn Russell Slade and Corrine Elsie (Tweedy) Slade. The family lived several years in New York, later moving to Chula Vista, California.
Marilyn graduated from Chula Vista High School. Marilyn met and later married Jim Patterson with whom she had two children, Timothy James and Tanya Lyn. Marilyn and Jim moved often, you never saw anyone who could have a moving van unpack furniture and boxes and before nightfall pictures were hung, everything was in its place and once again a house had become a home!
Even though she faced many obstacles and suffered never ending health issues, her love for her children and family never wavered. She delighted in surprising family and friends with special treasures she found just for them. Marilyn loved family picnics at O'Neill Park, celebrating birthdays & holidays, card games, a good cup of coffee and singing and dancing to “The Carpenters.”
Marilyn was predeceased by her parents Lynn and Corrine Slade, brother Ronald Eugene Slade, nephew Michael James Slade. She is survived by son Tim Patterson, daughter Tanya (Scott) Moebius, daughter-in-law Jill Patterson, grandchildren James Patterson, Bailey Patterson, Nathan Moebius, Andrew Moebius, former husband Jim Patterson, brother Lynn “Bud” Slade and many nephews and nieces. Marilyn will remain forever in our hearts...
