Loreto ‘Tata Loring” was born on December 11, 1929 in San Pablo, San Esteban, Ilocos Sur Philippines (about 225 miles northwest of Manila, Philippines). He was a humble, loving, and hard working man who worked as a farmer, fisherman, and stone crafter to support his family. As a farmer, he was known to have a green thumb and planted rice, corn, vegetables, peanuts, and tobacco. As a fisherman, he skillfully caught fish utilizing just a “pay-aw” (fishing net) & “hasag” (lamp) by him- self, without any assistance. As a stone crafter, he skillfully made many stone crafts that his wife Aurora would sell in their small store. While growing up in the Philippines, one of Loreto’s favorite pastimes was boxing.
Tata Loring migrated to Maui, Hawaii in 1969. Upon arriving in America, he first worked at the pineapple plantation in Haliimaile, Maui, Hawaii, and ultimately retired from the Sheraton Maui Hotel 24 years ago. Ten years ago, he relocated from Lahaina, Maui Hawaii to Henderson, Nevada. Loreto lived an amazing life charming and entertaining everyone around him with his sharp wit and humor. He was notorious for being able to put smiles on the faces of those around him and also able to get almost anyone up on their feet to dance to his claps, beats and singing, and very loved and treasured by his family, friends, and former co-workers.
His life’s legacy includes a wife of 64 years, 7 children (employed as Electrical Contractor, Sous Chefs, Hotel Managers, Hospitality Reps, Radio & TV Personality, Banker, and Real Estate Developer), 13 grandchildren (among them are Honor Roll Students, College & Masters Degree graduates and also the 2013 Miss Hawaii Filipina, and 4 great grandchildren.
