Leonard Duran Sr, age 81 passed away peacefully on July 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1942 to the late Arthur Duran and Alfoncita Chavez - Duran.
Our father was a devoted husband ,family man, and grandfather.
Our father and grandfather had a full wonderful life, his careers started as a shoe shine boy, in Santa Fe , New Mexico out of his grandfather barber shop in downtown. He joined the United States Navy, served proudly from July 1960 to July 1966 with an Honorable discharge. After the Navy , he worked for Kenny shoes for 20 plus years. During that time, managed multiple stores throughout Southern California. The last store was in Barstow , California it was a new advantage for him, he designed the store to meet the needs of community, and new Mall for the city of Barstow.
During his time in Barstow he became a member of Saint Joseph church, in which he became a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus FRAY GARCES COUNCIL OF 1830 ( CASEY’S OF Barstow) during the time he became a 4th degree Knight .
In November of 1979 he became a new planning commissioner of Barstow planning commission council, he served for 9 years. One of many projects he worked with others on, creating the first Annually Barstow Area Daze 1982, the whole town would celebrate 4th of July.
He is survived by his Wife Marcelina C. Sanchez -Duran of 60 years , Children Gregie Duran and Spouse Deborah, Christie Duran and Domestic partner Rick . Grandchildren Isaiah M Duran and Deztiny M Duran-Kahapea his sisters Joyce and Eleanor Duran, many nieces and nephews.
His son Leonard MC Duran II who preceded him in death on May 4, 1999 the loss was profound sorrow for Leonard Sr, and now they are together once more.
He will be missed, may his soul Rest In Peace.
