Keith Lopeman died on May 5, 2019 at the age of 87. He left this world napping in his chair after a typical week in his enviable life: golf, friends, barbecue, a Cubs game on TV, and family. He was born to Jimmy and Irene Lopeman on December 10, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. He was a superstar athlete at two high schools: Crane Technical in Chicago and Basic High School in Henderson, Nevada. He graduated from Basic High School in 1950. He attended San Bernadino College on a football scholarship before returning to Henderson to become an electrician. He and a close friend partnered in the ownership of an insurance agency and real estate sales on Water Street. In 1955, he met a pretty school teacher, La Creta Del Monte, and they married in 1957. In the late 1960s he took a job with Las Vegas Convention Services as one of the first convention salesmen in Las Vegas. He was promoted to Vice President of GES for a while, maintained a preferred client list, including corporations like Mobil Oil, and successfully sold convention services for nearly 30 years until he retired in 1997. Even though he was fulfilled as a small business co-owner and eventually in convention sales, he always had a side hustle. On a platform of representing “every man”, in 1963, he ran for, but did not win a seat on the Henderson City Council. He was a founding member of the Black Mountain Golf and Country Club, serving a term as president of its Board of Directors. With a group of friends, he purchased a “working” cattle ranch in Caliente, Nevada which they owned for several years. He and LaCreta were co-owners of Mallory’s Supper Club which successfully operated from 1975-1985. All the titles -- athlete, electrician, co-owner, vice-president, president, candidate, rancher, executive—paled in comparison to these: husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, golfer, and friend. He joins his wife, LaCreta Lopeman in Heaven. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Irene Lopeman; his sister, Pat Lopeman-Carroll; his two brothers, Richard and Jack Lopeman. He will be forever missed by those he left on Earth: daughters, Patti Mills, Henderson and Dr. Tracey Lopeman, Phoenix; son, John Lopeman (Margaret), Henderson; grandchildren, Joshua, Zachary, and Alex; and great-grandson, Colin, and sister, Joan Mallory of Las Vegas. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, May 13, at Palm Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway in Henderson. Celebration of Life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at Palm Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway in Henderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Catholic Charities or Cottey College in Nevada, MO.
