Jack H. Spivey, age 74, of North Las Vegas, Nevada passed, away on Thursday, August 27, 2020. He was born July 1, 1946 in Bertie, North Carolina to his parents Alex and Lucy Spivey. Jack was raised in Bronx, New York with his two younger sisters; Eleanor and Denise, and two younger brothers; Eric and Dennis. Jack had an inborn appreciation for the order in the family, allowing for the oldest members to be the most respected and to take on the most responsibility. As a young boy, Jack, like most children, enjoyed being part of teams, organizations and groups of other kids who shared similar interests; Jack participated in Skating and Judo.
Jack graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational-Technical High School in 1964. His favorite class in high school was Automotive/ Auto Mechanics. He went on to continue his education earning his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration.
On May 1, 1969 Jack exchanged wedding vows with Joyce Ann Hayden at the Base Chapel of Wichita, Kansas where he was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. The couple were blessed with 5 children, Two sons: Leroy and Jack, and three daughters: Kim, Tiffany and Alexandria. They were also blessed with eight grandchildren, Devin, Michael, Deandre, Tyler, Trevor, Anyia, Bryan and Miles.
Being a hard worker who praised efficiency, Jack was always striving to make improvements where they were necessary. He was able to analyze situations and problems, keeping everything and everyone on track. An excellent project supervisor, Jack was a person who could quickly make decisions based on the information available. He worked cooperatively and expected the same from his colleagues. In both his personal and professional environments, Jack upheld his standards. His primary occupation was in Flight Logistics in the U.S. Air Force, where he served for 21 years retiring as a Master Sergeant. He then went on to work for the United States Postal Service where he retired after 20 years of service.
Jack was a U.S. Air Force Veteran. His sense of duty helped lead him into the military where his understanding of rank, his willingness to abide by rules and regulations and his desire to follow orders was admired by his fellow service men and women. He served in the Europe, the United States, and Asia; where he saw action in Vietnam. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Master Sergeant. He received several awards recognizing his for his heroism, including a Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Longevity Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Award, Vietnam Service Medal.
Jack approached his leisure time in the same manner that he approached his life. A person who enjoyed being neat and orderly and one who understood the nature of things, he appreciated the hours he was able to devote to his various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were collecting coins and precious stones. Jack was content to enjoy his favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share his interests with others.
Being generous with his time and energy, Jack liked to belong to a variety of groups and organizations. He was a vocal leader who enjoyed being a part of things. His desire to uphold traditions and his ability to take charge of any type of project made him a tremendous asset. In college, Jack joined the Prince Hall Masonic Fraternity, F&AM, AEAONMS. Throughout his life, Jack was an active member of the Jack Haywood Lodge #6, Prince Hall Affiliate, Siwah Temple #216, Ancient Egyptian Arabic Order Noble of Mystic Shrine, Casa Del Sol Grand Commandery, and the Order of Knights Templar.
Faith was important to Jack. As a family member of Ministers, he became an ordained Minister at the New Bethal Baptist Church on 12/20/1995. During that time, he was Interim Pastor and Sung in the Men's Choir.
All who knew him would agree that Jack was a pillar of the community. He lived his life with his feet firmly on the ground. He had a strong work ethic, was pragmatic in his thoughts and acts, and constantly sought the means for self-improvement. He was willing to share his ideas and knowledge for the benefit of others, so that they could accomplish more in their lives. Jack Herman Spivey did his best to ensure that his family, friends, loved ones, co-workers, and everyone whose life he touched was given the chance to become a better person.
Jack was preceded in death by father, Alex Spivey, Jr.; and mother, Lucy G. Spivey. He is survived by his wife, Joyce A. Spivey; children: Leroy Stallworth III (Lupe), Kim D. Moser (Dean),Tiffany L. Allen (Paul), Alexandria Inmon (Bryan), and Jack H Spivey; siblings: Eric J. Spivey (Patti), Eleanor Dawson (Bishop Ernest), Reverend Dennis Spivey (Sharon), and Denise Spivey; grand children: Devin Spivey (Krystal), Michael Glen, Deandre Stallworth, Tyler Spivey (Airyn), Trevor Moser, Bryan Inmon, Miles Spivey, and Anyia Inmon; great grandchildren: Grace Spivey, Martha Aubrey Spivey, and Michael Glen Jr.; and his closest brother and friends, Elisha Sumbani, Thomas Adams, Archie McArthur, Theresa Adams and Sharon Kay Robert’s.
A visitation for Jack will be held Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Funeral services with military honors will begin at 11:00 AM, both at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Jack will be laid to rest privately at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
Due to Covid-19, all government restrictions will be in place, and all guests will be required to wear a mask.
