Inez was born on April 28, 1940 at her childhood home, in Bejou, MN. Her parents were Melvin and Hattie Johnson. At the age of 5 the family moved to Mahnomen, MN where Inez was raised. Inez had seven siblings in which she was the second youngest. Her siblings were Beverly, Hazel, Ardelle, Rudy, Arnold (Red), Buelah, and Hilda.
Inez graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1958. After high school Inez move to Fargo, ND to attend Dakota Business College. When she finished business school, she began working at Fire Underwriters Insurance Company.
After a short courtship of 13 days Inez Johnson married Marvin C. Setness at the Clay County Courthouse in Moorhead, MN on April 19, 1961. They moved to Long Beach, California where Marvin was stationed in the Navy and began their life together. During their 57 years of marriage they had sixteen moves before they settled down in Moorhead with their children. They were blessed with two sons Marvin C. Setness II and Michael C. Setness. Inez was ever watchful of her children. She maintained a firm hand in their upbringing. She also had the ability to enforce the rules as needed to ensure that her children were properly raised. Inez was blessed with her two sons, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Inez was very sociable and approachable. Because she was always so straightforward in how she approached relationships, friends and family knew that what they saw was always what they got. She enjoyed the camaraderie of being with a group of friends. Those close to Inez came to expect her high standards of performance. She will be missed by the many friends and acquaintances over the many years.
Being a hard worker Inez was always striving to make improvements where they were necessary. She was able to analyze situations and problems, keeping everything and everyone on track. She worked cooperatively and expected the same from her colleagues. Her primary occupation was being a Benefits Counselor at the Veteran’s Administration in Fargo, she was employed at Concrete Sectional Culvert Company, Navy Finance Center, and the Naval Electronic Supply Office.
Inez approached her leisure time in the same manner that she approached her life. Her favorite pursuits were quilting, knitting, and bowling. Inez was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Being generous with her time and energy, Inez liked to belong to a variety of groups and organizations. She was a vocal leader who enjoyed being a part of things. Her desire to uphold traditions and her ability to take charge of any type of project made her a tremendous asset. Throughout her later years, Faith was important to Inez. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Mahnomen, belonged to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Moorhead, Central Christian Church in Henderson, NV, and Sin City Church in Henderson, NV. During that time, she contributed both her time and talent to many groups such as Food for Kids Program, God Behind Bars and the Peace-Making Quilters Group. Inez was a life time member of the Moorhead VFW Ladies Auxiliary, in which she held the office of President twice, secretary once, and treasurer once. She was also an active member in the Disabled American Veteran Ladies Auxiliary, and the Vietnam Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
When Inez’s retirement finally arrived in April 1, 2002, she was well prepared. Her new life involved relocating to Henderson, Nevada. In retirement, she found new pleasure in traveling, community involvement as a Transportation Coordinator for Community service, being a member of Sun City Anthem Sewing Group and her church quilting ministry where she made numerous quilts. In many ways, Inez loved retirement. It provided her with the opportunity to catch up with her friends, attend functions and group outings, travel, and tackle new interesting activities.
Inez will be missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brother in-law, sister-in-law and the many friends she has made over the years.
