Hal was born in Solvay, New York as the son of Everette and Bessie Luckhurst Alder. Bessie passed away during childbirth and his Dad died several years later with a melancholy heart. Hence, there were three boys and two girls that were left with grandparents and family members to raise. In his teens both he and his brother, Bob, were fostered by Mr. & Mrs. Roy Haskell. What a blessing that was for the boys.
Hal went into the U.S. Military along with his two brothers Robert “Bob” and Frank Alder. After serving 4 years under General Patton, Hal returned home to the Central, New York area to meet the love of his life, Verna Wilsey. They were married on June 6th, 1948.
Hal retired from Oberdorfer Foundries after spending most of his successful career in production quality control. In his position, he touched the lives and efficiency of every employee both at the entry and executive level of the business. He was truly admired by all employees and business associates that he interacted with.
Hal and “Vern” raised two children, Deb and Scott Alder.
Deb married Pat Corbett in 1974 that allowed her to leave upstate New York to join her new husband at Nellis A.F.B. in Las Vegas, Nevada. Several years later, Scott and his wife Joy and two small sons left upstate New York to join his sister Deb and her husband to live in Las Vegas. Once Hal retired from Oberdorfer Foundries, he and Vern moved to Las Vegas to be with their children and grandchildren.
The greatest honor Hal passed down to his children is to love and honor our great country. He loved the military, his country, his family and his pets! After his baptism at First Henderson United Methodist Church, the love for the Lord Jesus Christ became stronger each and every day.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Everett Alder and Bessie Alder, two brother’s, three sisters, his wife, Vern Alder and his son, Scott Alder.
He is survived by his daughter, Deb (Alder) Corbett and her husband Patrick (Pat) Corbett. Grandson Christopher Corbett and his wife Kelsye and three great-children Emma, Lola and Owen. Granddaughter Katie (Corbett) and her husband Kevin Bertels. Daughter-in-law Joy (Benedict) Alder – grandson Matthew Alder and daughter Cheyenne and Peter Alder.
