Gerald (better known as Jerry) Wood blessed us on earth for 87 years, and on June 16, 2019, went on to eternal life with Jesus Christ. He was born December 10, 1931 in Cashion, Arizona to Delbert Stewart Wood and Neva Margaret Wood. Jerry attended Palo Verde Grade School in Palo Verde, Arizona and in 1949, graduated from Buckeye Union High School in Buckeye, Arizona.
Jerry met Lois Krise during his college years. He graduated from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina in 1954 and married Lois Krise. He became an ordained Conservative Baptist Minister.
Jerry was a missionary for 40 years in Brazil, South America, where he planted many fundamental Bible churches in remote jungle areas, towns, and cities of the Amazon and northeast regions. He also taught Bible doctrine and Greek in the Bible Seminary (SIBIMA) in the city of Fortaleza. Jerry retired to Boulder City, Nevada in 1997, and continued to be active at Bethany Baptist Church and in prison ministry.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ruth Frens. He is survived by his one and only true love and wife of nearly 65 years, Lois Wood; two siblings: Lawrence Wood & Melba Townzen; four children: Linda Tranchita, Delberta Silva, Melba Wood and Samuel Wood; five grandchildren: Sylvia McMartin, Stephanie Thurston, Caleb Wood, Noah Wood and Seth Wood; seven great grandchildren: Wayne McMartin, Jr., Stephanie McMartin, Madison Willoby, Joshua Thurston, Amber Parsons, Alicia Camacho & Kenley Brooks; three great-great grandchildren: Stella Parsons, Carter Parsons and Alejandro Camacho; and many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in the Lord.
A visitation for Gerald will be held Sunday, June 30, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, Nevada 89015. A funeral service will be Monday, July 1, 2019 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Bethany Baptist Church, 210 Wyoming Street, Boulder City, Nevada 89005. Jerry will be laid to rest following at Boulder City Cemetery, 501 Adams Blvd., Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
