It is with great sadness that the family of Ernest Brown (Ernie) announce his passing on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at the age of 97. Ernest will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 63 years, Susan Brown, and children, Johnny Brown and spouse (Dawn), Mark Medina and spouse (Myra) and his daughter, Cathy Vallee. He was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
Ernest was born in Sperry, Oklahoma to Laurence Brown and Grace Dunn. He loved sharing stories about growing up on a farm and life with eight siblings. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941 he was eager to join the fight and pleaded with his parents to allow him to enlist in the Armed Forces. On October 30, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Navy and soon thereafter was serving in the Battle of Guam. It just so happened that the day he stepped into eternity was on the 81st anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
Ernest was a butcher by trade, but in his forties operated small businesses until his retirement. As a young man he liked to play the fiddle and square dance. He remained physically active into his early eighties and enjoyed walks and bike riding.
To know him, was to be loved by him, but his greatest love was his wholehearted devotion to the Lord. His greatest gift, though, was his relentless commitment to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to family, friends and strangers alike. He was a kind and giving human being who was quick to offer help to others in need. It was not unusual to see him passing out bible tracts at the local Walmart where he was usually illegally parked in a loading zone. Yes, he was a rebel, but he was a rebel with a cause. His family will miss his larger than life presence in their lives but rejoices knowing he is in the presence of the Lord and surrounded by his loved ones who preceded him in death.
Ernie enjoyed spending time on the porch contemplating God in the beauty of nature. He took delight in watching birds and had a few that visited him daily. He made sure his hummingbird feeders were always full and the desert finches and doves had plenty of bird seed. Sunrises and sunsets fascinated him, but a full moon captured his complete attention as if by magic.
The family would like to express their eternal gratitude to the staff at the Nevada State Veterans Home in Boulder City, NV for the excellent care, love and compassion shown during his stay at the home.
A visitation for Ernest will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. Following the visitation will be a funeral service from 12:00 PM to 12:40 PM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
