Emmett W. Lally, 75, of Las Vegas, passed away peacefully Sept. 22, 2010. He was born Jan. 1, 1935, in St. Louis. He was a 22-year resident of southern Nevada. Emmett was a respected attorney, licensed in Nevada and Illinois. He practiced in both the public and private sectors in a career that spanned many years. Prior to becoming an attorney, he served honorably as a first lieutenant officer in the U.S. Army, taught the English language in Turkey, and worked as a journalist for United Press International. Emmett loved history. He traveled far and wide as a young man, collecting stories he would share for the rest of his life. Emmett was a great father, friend and colleague. He is survived by his loving children, Erin and Timothy, both of Las Vegas; brother, Stephen R. Lestmann (Karen); nephew, Stephen M. Lestmann; and niece, Elizabeth A. Lestmann, all of St. Louis. Emmett's knowledge was vast; his advice was sound, and he will be missed by many. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, at St. Viator Catholic Church, 2461 E. Flamingo Road. Interment will follow at 1:20 p.m. at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, in Boulder City.
