After spending his childhood and early adulthood in Washington, D.C., Charles moved to Los Angeles, CA. He established a successful career with the Xerox Corporation where he spent 25 years before retiring in 2009.
Charles was a passionate, devoted fan of the Washington Redskins football team. You could find him any given Sunday watching the game, eating his favorite snack of pistachio nuts. Charles also loved music, regularly listening to smooth jazz, classic oldies, and his favorite group The Temptations. He loved traveling, indulging in a good dessert, reading the paper and sparking a conversation with “Now, let me ask you something…..”
Charles is preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Rich; and stepfather, Melvin Rich, Sr. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Linda Patterson; four children: Sonya Nichelle Patterson, Chelsea Renee Patterson, Charles Franklyn Patterson and Alisha Westfield Celestine; seven grandchildren: Carl Straughn III, Chanee’ Caran Straughn-Patterson, Torrance Tyrell Patterson, Reginald Eugene Patterson, Brea Monique Nelson, Christian Celestine and Brandon Celestine; three great-grandchildren: Carli Rose Straughn, Karim Zaiden Patterson and Jace Cayden Wells, and a host of extended family members and loyal friends.
