Charles, known by family and friends as “Chip” was born November 22, 1942 in Boston, MA to Ansel Robert Butler and Caroline Margaret Butler (Hesseling). He graduated from High School and joined the United States Air Force, June 1960 at the age of 17. He completed Basic Training at Gunter Airforce Base (AFB), Alabama. He made the military his career and obtained an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences while in the military. He served multiple tours of duty including, Ramstein AFB Germany, Andrews AFB Washington DC, Laughlin AFB Del Rio, TX, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, Griffiss AFB, Rome, NY, Bremerhaven Army Airfield, Germany and retired as Senior Master Sergeant in 1984 from Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV.
During his military career as an Independent Duty Medical Technician, he received many commendations. He had an abiding concern for the health welfare and safety of assigned personnel, resolving long-standing and perplexing health care problems. Through his dedication, aggressiveness, and professionalism, he led the way for other medical technicians to follow. His extensive knowledge of medical practices and his resolve to always seek ways to improve resulted in major contributions to the effectiveness and success of the Air Force Medical Services Program.
Charles had a passion for all Boston sports teams and the Vegas Golden Knights Hockey team. He loved to play softball and played on many teams throughout his career and after retirement. He was an avid golfer and was quite skilled at shooting pool and bowling.
He is survived by his wife Fay (Brummett), daughter Linda, granddaughter Sophia, sister Lorraine (Frank Ball), nephews Joshua and Mathew, nieces Sarah (Chris Dimilla) and their daughter, Sophie Grey, and niece Allison Lenard.
His parents, sister Carolyn Butler (Revey), infant daughter Nancy, and her mother, Anni Hildegarde Butler (Weigand), precede him in death.
A Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday from 1-5 pm at Palm Mortuary, 800 S Boulder Hwy, Henderson, NV 89015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in his name to www.woundedwarriorproject.org
