Andrew Jacques Corwin, age 42, of Henderson, Nevada went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, with his beloved wife Sophia (Pusty) at his side. Andrew fought valiantly against leukemia for nearly five years and while he was in remission, his body was tired due to all the treatments and post stem cell transplant complications.
Andrew, known to some as Andy and to some as Drew, was born in Brattleboro, Vermont on August 15, 1980 to John Corwin and Joanie Corwin (Jacques) and is older brother to his siblings, Bethany and Danny. Andrew was an Air Force brat and had opportunities to live in many places in the United States as well as overseas in Italy, Germany and England while growing up. He graduated from Minot High School - Minot, North Dakota in 1999 and enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for 8 years working as a F-16 crew chief, in the base Honor Guard and as a Military Training Instructor. Following his career in the Air Force, he worked for Bombardier Transportation as a maintainer on the monorail trains for the Las Vegas Monorail and ultimately found his dream job with the State of Nevada, as a Development Technician II, maintaining generators at remote tower sites located across scenic southern Nevada.
It was while Andrew was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV that he met and married his wife and love of his life, Sophia, on February 8, 2004, after dating for only one month and two days. They were married for 19 years, five months and 10 days. They loved each other fiercely and spent that time building their life together; best of all, they never stopped dating each other. Quality time together was important to Andrew. He was her Superman and she was his Wonder Woman. On August 27, 2005, they welcomed their daughter, Emily Jacques into the world and on December 11, 2007, they were blessed with a second child, their son Vincent Daniel (affectionally known as Vinny). Andrew was a family man in every way, he loved his wife and children immensely and Emily and Vinny were the apples of his eyes. Daddy-daughter dances, father-son outings, school concerts, awards ceremonies, school activities; you name it, he was always present. He also spent countless hours on soccer fields, where he coached Emily’s pee-wee soccer teams, followed by countless hours on the football field coaching Vinny’s flag football teams. Emily and Vinny are his pride and joy and of all the titles Andrew had, “Dad” was his favorite.
Andrew also loved God and was a God-fearing man; so much so, that until he became sick, he was pursuing a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies at Lincoln Christian University, where he was a junior. He loved studying the bible and his main area of study was Apologetics. He was recently blessed to be enrolled at Central Academy of Ministry, through his church, Central Church and was taking classes to earn an Advanced Certificate of Ministry. In addition to his studies, he was very active in church and served as a leader in Celebrate Recovery (a faith based Christian 12-step recovery program) for many years where he taught lessons and led step studies. In addition to Celebrate Recovery, Andrew also volunteered numerous hours at the church, in various capacities: although, he never got to drive the golf carts…which he really wanted to do.
To know Andrew is to love him. He was quiet until you got to know him and once you were in, you were "in" and loved. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He had so many amazing qualities: he was strong, loving, kind, caring, passionate, silly, funny, determined, smart, gentle, an old soul, and possibly a little, and really, just a little stubborn. He was such a goofball and his sense of humor, wow; Drew jokes, enough said. Sarcasm…he was good at that too. He was also a lover and one hell of a fighter! He had so much heart and according to Emily and Vinny, he was a bad ass! He loved “wrenching” (being a mechanic). Rocky was his favorite movie of all time and he loved to watch The Godfather over and over. Green was his favorite color, which is only fitting since loved the outdoors, especially the mountains and the woods. He loved sports, whether it was coaching on the field or sitting in his recliner catching a game and was a diehard Red Sox and Patriots fan and also enjoyed watching a good UFC card. Andrew loved to collect knives, a hobby he really enjoyed sharing with his dad, Vinny and his brother Danny. He also collected little squishy figures and it was Emily who started that collection for him. He loved Italian food, especially spaghetti and chicken parmesan. Sandwiches were another of his favorites as well and turkey, man did he love turkey. Thanksgiving was his favorite! He also really loved to draw and was always so critical of himself, but his family loved his drawings. However, there was one thing that Andrew really, really didn't like; he hated “evil demon birds”, other wise known as ostriches and he made sure everyone knew it. But he was very fond of velociraptors, ducks and chickens and it was his furry boy, his Goldendoodle, Bear J. Flywheel, that held a special place in his heart.
Husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend; Andrew was so much to so many. He is survived by his wife Sophia, children Emily and Vincent, father John, mother Joanie, brother Daniel, sister Bethany, nephew Caleb, nieces Victoria and Meredith, grandmother’s Carol and MaryAnn, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous forever family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather’s Gordon and Bruce, and his aunt Theresa.
A visitation for Andrew will be held Monday, July 24, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Palm Boulder Highway Mortuary, 800 South Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015. A celebration of life will occur Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Central Church, 1001 New Beginnings Dr, Henderson, Nevada 89011.
