Born Wednesday, March 7, 1928 in Chickasha, Oklahoma, he was the son of the late Walter Hampton, Sr. and the late Mary (Pryor) Hampton. He was the husband of Dorinne (Sensenbach) Hampton, whom he married on December 30, 1996 in Arizona.
Walter was a Veteran and proudly served his country in World War II as an S2 in the United States Navy from 1946 until he was honorably discharged in 1952. He was awarded a World War II Victory Metal.
He was a police officer for the City of Cypress, California for 25 years and was selected Officer of the Year in 1967. Following his retirement from the police force, Walter drove a charter bus. A memorable trip for him was when he drove the wives of several Los Angeles Lakers players on an excursion to some area wineries. He was also the Chief of Security at the Hemet Valley Mall in Hemet, California from 1985-1993.
Walter was very active in the community and was generous with his time. He volunteered with several organizations, including the Masonic Lodge, Hemacinto High Twelve Club, the Elks Lodge and the Ramona Shrine Club. At one point, he held high-level positions such as President and Vice President within many of these organizations.
Walter was also a passionate sports fan. He loved the Angels and could name all of the players and their stats. He loved people, was generous and had a kind heart. Walter will be missed by his family and many friends.
Surviving are wife Dorinne Hampton, sons, Steve Hampton and Dan Bowers, daughters, Patty Brandon, Cathy Hardy, Kathy Coger and Deborah Gould; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren.
Interment will be in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.
