Robert Emory Whittier, age 84, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 16, 2011, he was born Friday, July 15, 1927 in Waukegan, Illinois, where he lived until joining the Army during WWII. He served three years in the Army Air Corp.
He was employed by Beckman Instrument-Emerson for 35 years. He retired in 1989 at which time he moved to Sun City, California. He was an active member of the Elks for 25 years and was involved in the GREAT Children's Reading Program, tutoring for 3 years at Callie Kirkpatrick and 7 years at Freedom Crest.
He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mae Whittier of Waukegan, Illinois, brother Paul Thomas Whittier, sister's Marilyn Whitaker and Mae Adele Whittier and Bonnie Jean, his wife of 50 years. He is survived by his wife, Marceil, three step-children and 7 step-grandchildren; his son Dan (Paula) Whittier of Bakersfield; daughter, Kathleen (Michael) McDonald of Heath, Texas and 6 grandchildren, Carrie (Kevin) Thompson, Adam (Alexandra) Whittier, Jared Whittier all of Tehachapi; Austin McDonald, Clayton McDonald, Jennifer McDonald all of Texas; and 1 great-grandchild, Analiese Hart Thompson.
A cemetery service with military honors will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, September 2nd in the Riverside National Cemetery, staging area # 3. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 AM in the Sun City United Methodist Church, 30220 Carmel Road, Sun City with Rev. Rex Wignall and Rev. Chuck Dobbs officiating.
