Robert Duane Davis was born on May, 17th 1947 in San Pedro, California and passed away peacefully in the care of Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage on the morning of Wednesday, January 8th, 2025 after a 7-year battle with cancer. Robert was 77 at the time of his passing.
Robert was an avid surfer and car enthusiast in his teenage years. Robert was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War and served his country honorably. When he returned home to California after his service, he married Maureen Davis, née Richardson, and the couple had 2 daughters; Michelle & Jennifer.
Robert was a lineman for GTE for 30 years, retired, and then went back to work for the company (now Verizon) as a contractor. During this 5-year span as a contractor, he helped crews troubleshoot complicated problems after which, he retired for good.
Robert was perfectly suited for retirement, having a deep interest in nearly everything he sought out or was exposed to and was never bored. College football, history, reading, crosswords, The LA Times, local goings-on, repairs around the house and a weekly coffee date with his closest friends kept him as busy as he wanted to be. Robert was the biggest of UCLA Football fans and was a season ticket holder for over 15 years. He spent his much of his retirement travelling the west coast with his family to root the team on. He also enjoyed travelling with his wife, Maureen, and equally relished their alone-time at the family home in Garner Valley, CA.
Robert was the best of fathers, grandfathers, husbands and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his daughter; Michelle, his sister; Sandra, his brother; David and his parents; Robert (Al) & Geraldine (Polly). He is survived by his wife; Maureen, daughter; Jennifer, son-in-law; Bryan and granddaughter; Peyton. Robert will be deeply missed by those who ever had the pleasure of meeting him. A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a later date.
