Raul Mireles passed away on Sunday, April 14th at 8:55pm at the age of 76, surrounded by his family and close friends. Raul was born on March 20th, 1943 in Tampico, Mexico to Jose Mireles Martinez and Amalia Mateos Rivera de Mireles.
After losing his father at the young age of 11, the family moved to San Francisco, where Raul attended and graduated from Sacred Heart High School. He maintained a voracious appetite for learning throughout his entire life.
He was married to Maria Elena Zamora for 55 years. Together they had four daughters and thirteen grandchildren, which were his pride and joy. He was and remains a huge influence on all his children and grandchildren and they on him. He was a pillar of strength for the entire family, both figuratively and literally.
Raul worked as a sporting goods buyer for several years, before starting and running his own business, Electrochinchilla, for over fifteen years. He was on the board of the Red Cross for Riverside County and was a member of the Riverside Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
Raul loved many things. In his younger days, he belonged to a Latin dance troop and at family gatherings could always be counted on to be the first one on and the last one off the dance floor, grabbing any nearby partner from ages 9 to 90. Music was always an integral part of his life.
Raul was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing with a few close friends, his daughters, and his grandchildren. Raul truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family, sharing stories and challenging others with riddles and tests of logic. He was a master of cribbage, and was forever seeking out the most challenging crossword puzzles. He never met a taco he didn’t like. He had a zest for life and chili peppers. His greatest pleasure though, was spending time with his grandchildren and sharing experiences, laughter and joy.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Elena; daughters, Monica, Erica, Veronica and Jessica; 13 grandchildren; brothers, Oscar and Enrique; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Memorial Services will be held Sunday, April 28, 2019 at 1 pm at Miller-Jones Mortuary, 26770 Murrieta Road, Sun City, CA 92585.
