He is lovingly remembered as brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was born in Los Angeles, Ca in 1946.
Phillip served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a tanker with two tours in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged with Good Conduct Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam service Medal with 1 star; National Defense Service Medal and M-14 Rifle Sharpshooter badge.
Phil later went to college at Cal State LA on the GI bill and committed 38 years to Hughes Aircraft Company/Raytheon Company Thales Raytheon Systems as a computer specialist/aerospace engineer, which took his career internationally to places such as Taiwan, Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Iceland, amongst other countries. Phil had the patience and technical expertise to tediously work on supporting computer design and maintenance where his name became synonymous with Hughes's mainframe and other air defense computer systems and retired in 2012.
Once retired, he reconnected with his Salesian Highschool Alumni and helped coordinate various projects and charities. Phillip also loved to spend quality time with his family, marine buddies and old co-workers.
Phillip Anthony Luna Sr. is survived by his sister Lupe Padilla, sister Anna Marie Luna, sister Rose Marie Luna, son Phillip Anthony Luna Jr., daughter Melissa Luna Concepcion, daughter Melinda Marie Jugas, son Joseph Anthony Luna, grandchildren, Aminah Cordeiro, Robert Luna, Christopher Jugas, Marina Luna, Alana Luna, Kaeden Jugas, Mia Luna, Kaysen Luna, Joseph Luna Jr. Mason Luna and Landon Luna.
