Patrick was born on November 19, 1948, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to parents Marie Terese and Joseph Patrick Tansey. He was the oldest of four children. After graduating High School in 1967, he earned his BA degree at Adrian College. In 1970, he married Lois Hawker and welcomed son, Mark.
Patrick enlisted in the US Army in 1968 and was posted at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and later at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma where he attended Officer Candidate School. After being medically discharged from the Army in 1971, he moved to his childhood town of Toledo, Ohio.
In 1977, after the birth of his twin daughters, Kelly and Maureen, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona. There he graduated from the Arizona State University with a Master’s degree in Social Work.
In 1985 he married Anne Clitheroe. They made their home in Bullhead, Arizona, and Columbia, South Carolina before settling in Moreno Valley, CA for 30 years.
Patrick worked for many years as a medical social worker and administrator at several healthcare institutions including St. Charles Hospital (Toledo, OH), Phoenix Children’s Hospital (Phoenix, AZ), Doha Hospital (Doha, Qatar), Health South Rehabilitation Hospital (Columbia, SC) and Riverside County Hospital (Riverside, CA). Patrick retired in 1997.
Patrick was passionate about many things and loved his family tremendously. He was involved in many sports programs in his younger years and resorted to playing in a variety of fantasy sports programs later in life. Staying true to his family’s tradition, Patrick LOVED the University of Michigan Wolverines. Patrick truly enjoyed spending time and playing with his grandsons. Watching Tyler and Dylan play sports and taking AJ on rides on his electric scooter were some of his most favorite past times.
Patrick was a beloved gambler who enjoyed the strategy involved in both poker and blackjack. He loved Las Vegas, the lights, action and of course “beating the house”. Patrick spent the last week of his life in “his city” doing what he enjoyed: visiting the race and sports book, gaming, dining, and seeing the sights.
Those who knew him know he was incredibly smart, funny, generous, compassionate, always up for an adventure and there when you needed him.
In addition to his wife Anne, Patrick is survived by his son Mark (Gisella), daughters Kelly (Andy) and Maureen, grandsons Tyler, Dylan and AJ, step granddaughter Brianna, sister Colleen (David), sister-in-law Mary, brother Brian (Kelly), and his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Michael.
