Orin is notoriously famous in family circles for setting the family barn on fire at the age of 6.
Orin went to Norfolk Bible College and Ottumwa Bible College. He continued his education at Phillips Theological Seminary, where he received his Master's of Divinity. He then became a Navy Chaplain for a number of years. After the Navy, he obtained his Master's of Education at Chapman University.
For the 20 years he lived in Brawley, he was an Academic Teacher at the Calipatria State Prison. He was also a special education teacher. He welcomed a conversation from anyone. He had a positive impact on everyone he met and a joy about life that was unequaled.
Orin is survived by his faithful wife of 22 years, Julieta Dyer; daughters Charlotte Dyer, Maricel Thornton, Cristina Johnson, Luz Pilar, Zorina Gavina, Corinne O'Brien, Joy Blythe, Sherry Blasingame; 18 grandchildren; and his 2 brothers, Marvin and Dallas Dyer.
